@clevinson played around w/ the schema you sent me. seems like the real performance hit starts after trying to search in it and that impacts the whole interface. I might have some solution later today although it might take longer to solve properly. Until then do you want me to: 1) disable schema browser entirely if # of tables > threshold OR 2) disable search only if # of tables > threshold?

@arikfr i think the problem is only with search, as you say

@arikfr
Jun 10 2015 10:01
@clevinson so you prefer to disable only search?
Cory

@clevinson ok. I will ping you when it's ready.

also, long term i think it would be great to have a schema browser as its own view entirely (not as a side panel on the query page). where you could select a table to view it's columns & field types in more of a table view
do you have plans for something similar / would you be willing to accept PR's for something like that?

@clevinson definitely will be happy to accept this.
also, you can take a look at https://github.com/everythingme/redshift_console -- it monitors running queries, but also let's you browse your schema.

@arikfr redshift console looks very useful, but more for our team (the analysts & engineers who work heavily with redshift)
we use redash primarily for sharing queries and increasing redshift usage with non-technical people who want to get a csv / quick graph
and for those people, if they are exploring some light queries on their own, it would be very useful to have a schema browser

yep, totally understand. btw, there is autocomplete too (ctrl+space) in the query editor, but it might be "broken" too due to your schema size :-(
for the rest of your analytics usage you use Tableau?
Cory
@clevinson
Jun 10 2015 10:32
yes correct

@arikfr
Jun 10 2015 10:33
@clevinson ok, at least auto complete seems to work fine.

@clevinson do you know if someone from soundcloud is coming to PyData London next week?
Cory
@clevinson
Jun 10 2015 10:44
@arikfr i don't believe so. I think we may have had some people at PyData berlin recently, but I wasn't there

@clevinson updated the 0.6.1-RC with the fix. if you run the upgrade now, you will get it.
@clevinson re. pydata: ok... was hoping to meet one of you, to get a better understanding of how you use re:dash. I guess I will have to come to Berlin :)

nice! One last question, is there a way to set a default datasource other than redash:metadata?
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Jun 10 2015 10:56
no :| but it sorts them by id, so what you can do is delete the re:dash metadata one and recreate it. btw, there is a webui which you can use to do such things -- /admin/datasource. I suggest you copy the options JSON from the existing one before deleting, because there is now way to recover the redash_reader user password.
(the admin UI is accessible only if your user is an admin, of course)

there was a super weird issue, that specific version of grunt and its plugins was generating bad minifed JS, that was working until some update in Chrome. I don't remember which build was it that I upgraded grunt, but I think it was after 840.
