I run the bootscript on a fresh vm quest with Ubuntu 14.04.
I get Warning's about oracle and MQL runners when sudo -u redash bin/run ./manage.py from /opt/redash/current. Also i am trying to figure out how to connect to get GUI running i tried to get in via localhost in a browser(chrome) but on a "successful" login it throws me a Internal Server Error. Help?

@RobertKopczynski to understand why you get the error check the log at /opt/redash/logs/api_error.log

@arikfr Just wanted to say thanks for this beautiful tool! We organized a data analytics hackathon in our company today and redash was at the heart of it :)

@satyadeepk that's really cool :)

Every team had to build a dashboard in redash and the one with the most insightful one wins
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:35
What kind of data are you analyzing? usage?
Satyadeep
@satyadeepk
Apr 23 2016 18:36
Yes, we exported both our mongodb and mixpanel events into bigquery first
we were looking primarily at engagement metrics
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:36
how did you move your data into bigquery? custom scripts?
Satyadeep
@satyadeepk
Apr 23 2016 18:37
Used this cool tool for mongodb https://github.com/hakobera/mongobq which automatically generates the schema
wrote custom script for mixpanel events based on their export api
that way we were able to join both our entity and event data under one roof
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:41
having all the data in one place is very helpful and can lead to better analysis.
btw, I think that @hakobera is using Redash too :) He contributed the Influx query runner at the time.
Satyadeep
@satyadeepk
Apr 23 2016 18:43
absolutely, we unlocked a goldmine of data by getting everything in one place
cool! that's good to know, thanks @hakobera

If you would like to write a guest blog post to Redash's blog about any of this it will be great :)

thanks for the invite! i will be glad to share our approach a
i am also looking to make the mixpanel script opensource

@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:47
I'm sure this will be helpful for other Mixpanel users.

  1. i want hide schema name / is it possible somehow ? pls
2 is it possible to hide tables - where user has no right ? (e.g. we have 100 tables i want share only 10)
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:53
@satyadeepk :+1:
@norbertbede re. hide tables: we recommend managing this with your database. Just give the relevant permissions to the user you use to connect to your database from redash.
re. hide schema name - what do you mean?
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 18:54
in table browser i see: schemaname.tablename
instead tablaname (without schema)
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:55
what database is this?
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 18:56
postgres 9.5.2
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:57
it appends the schema name when the schema isn't public. this is to avoid name collisions between schemas
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 18:58
@arikfr OK. i thought is it possible because in demo no schema - probably another datasource
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:58
in demo the tables are in the public schema...
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 18:59
@arikfr so i should create my tables in public well
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 18:59
I wouldn't do it just because of how we display table names in redash :)
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 19:00
we use opensource erp system as cloud service and dont want to show sw name in source
but i can prepare data in other schema well
then i "fake" it
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 19:01
got it. yeah, I guess this is an option
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 19:01

Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 19:01
you can also patch redash to avoid showing the schema name.
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 19:01
i see
going to play with redash :)

im sure your product has good chance
im working with complex erp/wms business platform, and want something easier than pentaho.

I need to write a follow up post as some things changed. My mission stays the same, but the business strategy will probably update.
Any how I'll be very happy to hear your ideas.

i'm/my company active member of idempiere.org community
and fighting lot for easy approach
java coders are happy from code not from ux
not all sure :)
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 19:21
there is also the thing that UX is just hard. and not enough UI/UX people participate in open source.
Norbert Bede
@norbertbede
Apr 23 2016 19:22
many times opensource RAW. good base but usable in business
because today internet based softwares are really simple (sf.com, google, etc)
  • not usable..
i thought
Arik Fraimovich
@arikfr
Apr 23 2016 19:23
that's true.
