it's definitely not a firewall issue as it was working before and the same query works on and off on redash. when it doesnt work, it gives this error "Error running query: DB-Lib error message 20004, severity 9: Read from the server failed Net-Lib error during Connection reset by peer (104)".
trace from redash log, it appeared very fast (right after i hit run). tail -f celery_error.log
File "/opt/redash/redash.0.12.0.b2449/redash/query_runner/mssql.py", line 147, in run_query
cursor.execute(query)
File "pymssql.pyx", line 467, in pymssql.Cursor.execute (pymssql.c:7561)
OperationalError: (20004, 'DB-Lib error message 20004, severity 9:\nRead from the server failed\nNet-Lib error during Connection reset by peer (104)\n')

if i run a simple query like "select * from <table>", it returns ok.

I googled pymssql and found the changelog mentioned I need to use TDS version 7.1 instead of 8.0 or 7.0.

After I changed this, it works perfectly. Anyway, I will monitor it periodically and see if it causes problem again. Thanks for your help.
