Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
ok
well if you have the table names from the viewer jus try
Gregor
@echna
Actually, maybe not. Is sql just inefficient in saving stuff?
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
table = pd.read_sql_query("SELECT * FROM table_name",  conn)
It should be efficient
but mostly it is much faster than reading a file line by line
in your windows terminal try to type sqlite3
wouldn't be surprised if it is installed. on linux it normally is
that's a good way to play around with it for a bit
Gregor
@echna
C:\Users\Echna>sqlite3
'sqlite3' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
ok.
you can install it. should be easy and it is very small. only a few hundred kb.
Gregor
@echna
table = pd.read_sql_query("SELECT * FROM table_name",  conn)
worked using the table names from the sql viewer
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
cool. maybe .tables command works only in the program since it is not a query
table = pd.read_sql_query(""SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type='table' ",  conn)
that should also give you all the table names
apparently the pandas sql read is very fast.
Gregor
@echna
table = pd.read_sql_query("SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type='table' ",  conn)
works. Note I have deleted one of the "
pd.read seems like the way to go :)
Gregor
@echna
does python first check all the syntax and then execute line by line?
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
no I doubt it will. It just passed on everything inbetween " ''
but it will raise the error coming from SQL
Gregor
@echna
I think it does. I killed my shell and tried to run the file again. I had a syntax error at the end of the python file and it complained about it. I then tried single lines in the shell and it started complaining that I had not imported stuff.
I had imported pandas etc at the start of my file that I ran, but it didn't seem to have executed those.
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
ah you mean just python. I thought you mean whether it checks the sql syntax. Yes, it will do a syntax check before executing.
Gregor
@echna
ah, ok.
cool
I am trying to apply for this job, but their website for applications is so bad that the server just times out half the time when I try to get to the next section for application. So fucking annoying!
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
haha. maybe your job is to make the page better
what job?
Gregor
@echna
quant position at Willis Towers Watson
You'd think a multi-continental billion dollar company would have a decent application webpage..
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
yep
Gregor
@echna
Did you get my collaboration request for the indicator stuff?
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
yep
Gregor
@echna
Coolio
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
you still got some letters here
Gregor
@echna
Yeah, I should come by some time soon. Are you working from home anytime this week? I could come by and we can have a chat and maybe do some work. Also I still have the extra set of keys ;)
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
I am working from home today. but I would have to leave before 6.
or friday. or just come and grab them anytime
Gregor
@echna
Lol I thought gitter would give me some notification... Nvm, I'll pop by on Friday then.
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
or do you have time on friday?
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
I mean saturday
Gregor
@echna
I could do Saturday as well. I think we need to set ourselves a new goal to have something to work towards,
maybe start doing some time series analysis or do something more concrete with the development indicators.
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
cool. I think the development indicators are cool. Yeah let's set a specific goal.
Ouch!
Oliver Gindele
@gindeleo
haha
send that to the guy
