I removed gitter in cache and config as it should work like a first installation.
Totally forgot I can run it via the flatpak not my obvious choice for the space it occupy but at least it works like this on archlinux
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@MarkoShiva If it's giving you those errors, nwapp/oauth.json isn't being seen. Make sure you have it in the <project-root>/nwapp/ directory
Marko Shiva Pavlovic
@MarkoShiva
I have only cloned desktop @MadLittleMods
origin git@gitlab.com:gitlab-org/gitter/desktop.git (fetch)
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@MarkoShiva That's all you need. In that project, open the nwapp/ directory and add the oauth.json in there
Marko Shiva Pavlovic
@MarkoShiva
yes I do have it
format is
Marko Shiva Pavlovic
@MarkoShiva
cat nwapp/oauth.json
{
"linux":
    {
        "KEY": "REDACTED",
        "SECRET": "REDACTED"
    }
}
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@MarkoShiva Reading this over, I noticed you said create a GitHub OAuth app which isn't right for the desktop app

You need to create a Gitter OAuth app here, https://developer.gitter.im/apps (sign in) with the redirectURL as https://gitter.im/login/desktop/callback

Krutonium
@Krutonium
So Gitter no longer runs on my system.
His voice echoed into the chamber of the dead
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@Krutonium What error are you seeing? What's not working exactly?
Donald Andrew Bronson
@Recon419A
Okay, so, dumb question. I'm running GNOME 3 and I "lost" Gitter. Does it require me to have a tray icon extension installed?
I can see it running in a ps -aux | grep gitter but there's no window and it won't let me launch a new instance.
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@Recon419A Yes, there is a section to install the tray extension for Ubuntu. Not sure about GNOME 3

https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/desktop/#tray-icon-on-ubuntu

@MadLittleMods
If you're interested in trying out the Gitter desktop v5 builds before we push them out to everyone, here is a list to download for each platform. We'd love to know if things are working as expected and feel free to create issues for any problems you see :slight_smile:

@cbj4074
:thumbsup: Just installed the Windows version and will give it a spin!
Looks and feels slicker already ;)
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@cbj4074 Thanks for trying it out :heart:
Ben Johnson
@cbj4074
@MadLittleMods Sure thing! Thanks for the juicy new release! I have it on 2 machines now, too (both Windows).
Marko Shiva Pavlovic
@MarkoShiva
nice at least I do not need to anymore use my script to start a gitter from npm :)
It works on the Arch Linux
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@MarkoShiva Thanks for the feedback @MarkoShiva! We recently just closed off the issue around this :rocket: gitlab-org/gitter/desktop#281
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Continuing conversation from :point_up: August 24, 2020 7:07 AM with @tebeco about gitlab-org/gitter/desktop#302
TeBeCo
@tebeco
just saw your message
so yeah to continue here
if the pb only show up when booting / session startup, I probably have to change how windows start it
Do you know where should I change that ? (as there's multiple way to do that in Win)
fun fact TaskManager>Startup does not list it
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@tebeco Startup is controlled in the top-left Gitter menu. Ideally would be in the normal task manager spot
TeBeCo
@tebeco
so this mean the app might starts because of something else like "app re-hydration" from the OS it self
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Marko Shiva Pavlovic
@MarkoShiva
so nice client
Any plans to do an update on the mobile version
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@MarkoShiva No plans for us to make an update to the mobile apps but there has been some movement from community contributions which we are willing to review and ship
Marko Shiva Pavlovic
@MarkoShiva
@MadLittleMods so then the PWA is the course?
why does the search do not use OR and or any caps for search query?
to opem up a isse about that are is mentioned somewhere
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@MarkoShiva Yep, PWA is the plan.

I'm not sure what you mean with the search. You can see search examples that use OR in that panel -> text:(nw.js OR electron)
