I service about 20 RPis and 4 Linux servers in my area. I usually us SSH. But there are some machines that are behind a few routers and firewalls. I was wondering if there was another way to get to those machines from outside. I was thinking of something like MQTT to SHH??
I am going to set up at MQTT Broker and have the the clients subscribed to thier own topics.. but then I can I review the output from a cli
<correction> but how can I review the output from a cli?
Does anyone know if there is an IOT or other solution to manage the clients
I was also thinking of setting up Reverse SSH from the client machines. but with all the port mapping and its sloppy

Thanks for the response @jgonggrijp , It was fixed by the way.
I used websocket instead of socket.io
Cheers... :)

Hello I am trying to achive grid layout like in any video chat app using css grid. I got the columns right but the grid is overflowing outside of its parents height. I want the grid to take 100vh height and not more than that.. I am specifying the number of columns the grid should take and want it to wrap itself to next row, if no of videos are more. make a code pen here:

Hey all, I'm a software researcher carrying out a research study with code snippets in Java and Python. If you're experienced with these languages and have ~45 minutes to spare, you can find the study here. All help is appreciated!

Is there a way to integrate gitter (your own room) in a standard HTML page ?
JomoPipi
@JomoPipi
@vindevoy_gitlab
Well, I guess you could start off by embeding it. not sure about the own room thing, unless maybe you trim off the left side that lets you enter different rooms

So, Im reading about React and I keep hearing “everything is a component”. Sounds like nonsense to me. Are if statements components? Numbers? const keywords? I mean, I don’t even know what it is, exactly, but I dont think everything is a component. Can someone help me clear up my confusion by telling me what is or is not a component?
JomoPipi
@JomoPipi
referring to this article https://medium.com/@damusnet/how-to-structure-your-files-in-a-large-react-application-the-solution-99389c64985e
the author says everything is a component but doesn't say anything else about that

@daddyfix you can get ssh to proxy through other ssh to get to a specific machine
so say I can ssh into Computer A, and computer A can ssh into computer B, and computer B can ssh into computer C, but I cannot ssh directly to B and C, then I tell ssh to use Computer A as proxy for computer B, and computer B as proxy for computer C, then ssh will automatically do that for me
And if you use control connections then it will be pretty quick also
daddyfix
@daddyfix
@aucampia Thanks. But I only have one machine behind the firewall. Besides I thought of another solution.. tell me what you think.
@aucampia I am going to use a github script by jpmens. Which is a Python program which subscribes to a set of MQTT topics and executes processes on the host it's running on. Launchable processes are configured on a per/wildcard basis, and they can be constrained to run only if a particular text payload is contained in the message.
Iwan Aucamp
@aucampia
I would not do that
Or well, it is better than nothing
daddyfix
@daddyfix
After I set up my mqtt broker then I am going to publish a message to a particular machine and have it open a reverse ssh tunnel to my server
Iwan Aucamp
@aucampia
But ssh is a lot more versatile, so I would find a way to be able to ssh in
If you absolutely cannot get ssh, then that is better than nothing
but if I have to manage a server with no ssh acccess I would just give up
daddyfix
@daddyfix
The message is going to be a secret key that opens the ssh reverse tunnel. Then I can just ssh into the machine after the tunnel has been created
this is how it will look. Machine A (SERVER) , Machine B (CLIENT) behind firewall. Machine C (MQTT BROKER). A publishes to a unique topic to C and B gets the message to open an SSH REVERSE TUNNEL to server A. Then A can SSH on a local port into B.
Iwan Aucamp
@aucampia
@daddyfix that is pretty decent then
daddyfix
@daddyfix
Ill let you know if it works.. Gonna do it this weekend.

Julian Gonggrijp
@jgonggrijp
@anandsinha095 You need to provide more context, otherwise it is unlikely that anyone knows what you're talking about. By the word "contract", though, I'm guessing that maybe you're looking for ethereum/welcome.

Hello everyone, I am currently developing in the crystal programming language and am consistently running into the following error: Error: 'ldflags' link argument must be a String. The line producing this error is: @[Link(ldflags:"#{__DIR__}/libAppCore#{extension_concatenate}")]. The extension_concatenate variable is a simple string:
case system_classification() when (0x00).as(Int32) -- Mac OS X Pre-Built Binary Extensions -- extension_concatenate = (".dylib") when (0x01).as(Int32) -- Linux Pre-Built Binary Extensions -- extension_concatenate = (".so") end

Julian Gonggrijp
@jgonggrijp
@dsaylikoglu Just in case you weren't aware, you are free to work with VS Code even if your partner uses a different IDE or editor.
Jacob Parker
@parkercjacob_gitlab
That's actually something I'm curious about. I was warned by someone in the industry to use something other than my favorite editor, emacs, because they think that you should use the same editor as your colleagues. Due to emacs being an editor with a higher barrier of entry, the likelihood of having colleagues who uses it as well, is lower.
Has anyone run into issues with mixed or mismatched editors among a development team? is he correct in his thinking?
Fintan Moloney
@Josebuendia
This type of thing really doesn't matter. Do not be concerned about it. Use one that works and is appropriate for your language, just get coding.
Fintan Moloney
@Josebuendia
Unless you don't have much memory, you will probably install a few anyway, for different purposes.
