Hi everybody! Does anybody know how to completely remove a community and release its URL so that it can be registered again?

@spectie:matrix.org hi
@spectie:matrix.org i'm trying to join a room on gitter through matrix
@spectie:matrix.org i've tried #gitter_KurdishNLP=2Fcommunity:matrix.org
@spectie:matrix.org but it doesn't seem to be working
@spectie:matrix.org i don't see any of the messages and people don't see my messages :(
@spectie:matrix.org is there something i am missing?
matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org hmm, now i see my messages there (at least new ones)

@spectie:matrix.org if you run into any more issues, https://gitter.im/matrix-org/bridging is a great place to ask
matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org aha
@spectie:matrix.org that might be better!
@spectie:matrix.org i tried #gitter_ matrix-org=2Fbridging:matrix.org
@spectie:matrix.org but it doesn't come up
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
It's #bridges:matrix.org on Matrix
(From the room topic/description at the top in the chat header)
matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org ah ok
@spectie:matrix.org yeah, the whole room urls are a bit of a mystery to me
@spectie:matrix.org i imagine other people find them easier

@MadLittleMods

@spectie:matrix.org Hopefully will be a lot better with the new native bridge, gitterHQ/webapp#2648

We plan to make them look like #gitter_developers:gitter.im (which corresponds to https://gitter.im/gitter/developers)

@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org i mean, a sensible thing would be #channel:server or #channel:server:protocol
@spectie:matrix.org #hfst:matrix.org:matrix, #apertium:freenode.net:irc
@spectie:matrix.org but i'm not a pro :D
@spectie:matrix.org it would be cool if you didn't even need the protocol, if it just tried them and let you choose if there were >1

@MadLittleMods

Can you give a real example with your format? I'm not quite sure what you mean

Perhaps my example was a bit ambiguous because it was for a room under the Gitter community. But I mean #webdriverio_webdriverio:gitter.im https://gitter.im/webdriverio/webdriverio

matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org well, the latter is a real example
@spectie:matrix.org #apertium is an IRC channel on irc.freenode.net
@spectie:matrix.org Apertium:matrix.org:matrix is a Matrix room on matrix.org
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
hmmm, I see. How would it work for Gitter with the forward slash? community/room
I'm headed out for dinner now but will check in on this after again :slight_smile:
matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org forward slash isn't a reserved character
@spectie:matrix.org you could have
@spectie:matrix.org KurdishNLP/community:gitter.im:gitter
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
We discussed that a bit and decided to shy away from / because it could break some clients that don't escape or do weirdly. That is why the current bridges use the %2f= type stuff which turned out bad
matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org i mean, i think that the #freenode_#apertium:matrix.org vs. #KurdishNLP_community:gitter.im is a bit conflating things
@spectie:matrix.org sure, which is why i suggest using :
@spectie:matrix.org but i mean, it could be any delimiter that isn't escaped weirdly
@spectie:matrix.org i mean, the ideal thing would be not to have people have to memorise a completely new url scheme
@spectie:matrix.org even something like gitter://gitter.im/KurdishNLP/community and irc://irc.freenode.net/#apertium
@spectie:matrix.org would be better
@spectie:matrix.org protocol://server/path is something that is reasonably intuitive to the majority of nerds here like myself

hello world

@MadLittleMods
@spectie:matrix.org Could be an interesting MSC for an alternative syntax 🤔. It looks like these may be what you're after!
matrixbot
@matrixbot
@spectie:matrix.org cool
@spectie:matrix.org there is one for IRC:
@spectie:matrix.org but not one for gitter

@Giorgi
I created a room for my repo: https://github.com/Giorgi/DuckDB.NET but I didn't receive a PR for badge
The gitter-badger did create a fork though: https://github.com/gitter-badger/DuckDB.NET
Does it need some time to modify the readme and send a PR ?
