What could be the issue here? My ERC (Emacs IRC client) is saying "Connection failed". Freenode working fine, so I am wondering where is the issue.
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@jangid There isn't a ERC wiki entry yet but you may be able to use the other guides to get you going: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/irc-bridge/wikis/Client-configuration
Pankaj Jangid
@jangid
@MadLittleMods It was an ssl related issue. Instead of M-x erc, I had to use M-x erc-tls. Worked smoothly. I add to wiki.

thx MadLittleMods, sad to see this 3 years old bug still isn't solved
(i didn't had the issue previously, i updated my client and got the issue)
no znc/whatever
Craig Maloney
@craigmaloney
I think there is an issue with the IRC SSL certificate
11:17:11 gitter -- - subject C=GB,ST=Greater Manchester,L=Salford,O=Sectigo Limited,CN=Sectigo RSA Domain Validation Secure Server CA', issuerC=US,ST=New Jersey,L=Jersey City,O=The USERTRUST Network,CN=USERTrust RSA Certification Authority', RSA
key 2048 bits, signed using RSA-SHA384, activated 2018-11-02 00:00:00 UTC', expires2030-12-31 23:59:59 UTC', SHA-1 fingerprint `33e4e80807204c2b6182a3a14b591acd25b5f0db'
11:17:11 gitter =!= gnutls: certificate fingerprint does NOT match (check value of option irc.server.gitter.ssl_fingerprint)
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@craigmaloney The SSL certificate was recently updated so you probably have to re-trust that fingerprint, gitlab-com/gl-infra/infrastructure#7625

@craigmaloney
Got it. Thank you!

@craigmaloney Feel free to make an issue with some updates for https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/irc-bridge/-/wiki_pages/WeeChat

@RUSshy
hi, when i send messages from the Web Chat, my own messages aren't sent to me in IRC, would be cool to have that, when i reread conversations from my IRC client, it is hard to follow discussions since my messages are missing
(sometimes i can't use IRC client, therefore i'm using sometimes the web chat)
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@RUSshy You can track gitlab-org/gitter/irc-bridge#5
RUSshy
@RUSshy
ohh there is a tracker for the issue, thanks @MadLittleMods
oh so it is a limitation of IRC
sebbu2
@sebbu2
but it could be printed if it comes from gitter website and not if it comes from a irc client ?
like, as someone else with same nick/ident/host ?
oh, the metadata comment 4years ago already asked about it
Mori Bellamy
@moribellamy
hey gang thanks for this project, looking forward to not having yet another tab open.
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@moribellamy Glad you like it :)
Mori Bellamy
@moribellamy
the API key that i gave as the server password...did that come from gitter? or was there some kind of oauth exchange that resulted in a irc-bridge only secret?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@moribellamy It's just a access token generated when you visit that page signed in. I think it may be an OAuth flow
sebbu2
@sebbu2
weird, i was disconnected saying "i must authenticate"
i check the website, login... irc reconnect by itself
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@sebbu2 The IRC process restarts every once in a while when it reaches the memory limit

Hey guys, is there a reason why the connection reconnects 3-4 times per day? why isn't it stable?
Tomas
@viktomas
Hey @x70b1, the IRC bridge contains a memcache that's not being expired and when it reaches its memory limit, the bridge restarts: gitlab-com/gl-infra/infrastructure/-#8702
@x70b1 is it causing you any grief? We assumed that the clients reconnect automatically.
x70b1
@x70b1
@viktomas thx for this!
Its not a "problem". Yes, clients reconnect, but its annoying as clients tend to do something on a reconnect like printing channel topics, printing usernames and give a hint that "something happen on this channel". I use irssi on a server as bouncer. I would just expect a stable connection.
x70b1
@x70b1
@viktomas its stable now, was there a change? there is nothing new in the linked issue
Tomas
@viktomas
@x70b1 There hasn't been any change. How long (roughly) since you've last seen irc bridge restart (client reconnecting)?
x70b1
@x70b1
@viktomas It looks like 2 Weeks (maybe longer as I am not sure at the moment if the connection reset was on my side)
x70b1
@x70b1
well, now the problem is back - a reconnect all 2 hours
sebbu2
@sebbu2
oh, the channel changed name
from #gitterHQ/irc-bridge to #gitter/irc-bridge

@puremourning
@MadLittleMods is there any way to prevent push-notification suppressions when my user is only active in IRC ? i guess i could use another user for IRC but....
use case is that i have an IRC clent running permanently on some host, but i still want notifications on my phone/desktop for channels i'm watching.
by having the IRC client running it essentially supresses all notifications
Tomas
@viktomas
@puremourning We would love to solve that situation by completely removing the limit on push notifications gitlab-org/gitter/webapp#1846 But this work is not planned yet. Certainly not within the next couple of months..
