Yes 10.10

@suprememoocow
Hmm, we haven't done any testing on 10.10 yet, but it's probably time we started.
We'll set it up and see if we can recreate it locally.

Hi everyone
Volodymyr128
@Volodymyr128
@all who have used https://www.nodejitsu.com/? Is it worth to add into my project?
Mauro Pompilio
@malditogeek
@Volodymyr128 not sure what your project is about but Nodejitsu is shutting down, so go with Heroku.
that said, this rooms is for the Node client for Gitter, for more general questions please use gitterhq/nodejs
Volodymyr128
@Volodymyr128
@malditogeek got it, thanks!

@peonicles
hi
i was looking at https://github.com/gitterHQ/node-gitter .. and noticed the basics had :
var Gitter = require('node-gitter');

var gitter = new Gitter(token);

gitter.currentUser()
.then(function(user) {
  console.log('You are logged in as:', user.username);
});
but where do i get token ? is there any code example ?
q
@peonicles
ahh ok my bad. I thought token was some oauth object. Didn't realise it's been given to me
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@peonicles For reference, you can use the personal access token from here: https://developer.gitter.im/apps

@ghost~569ab292e610378809bca93e
so my npm -v is 3.8.1, but my node -v is v0.10.25, wtf
how do i upgrade node?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@ajbeach2 You can just run the installer again: https://nodejs.org/en/

@ghost~569ab292e610378809bca93e
im using docker on window though, its an ubuntu image
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
You could use nvm to manage your node versions and get the latest: https://www.npmjs.com/package/nvm

@ghost~569ab292e610378809bca93e
doesnt really help, i just need the newest version
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Please note that this is not the correct room to ask these questions, you should ask here: https://gitter.im/nodejs/node

gotcha thanks
himanhsu
@Himanshu54
var Gitter = require('node-gitter');
var gitter = new Gitter(token);
i get an empty object in gitter
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
I don't see how that could happen. Works fine for me. Which version of node-gitter are you using?
How do you know you gitter is an empty object?
himanhsu
@Himanshu54
@MadLittleMods not actually an empty object but client field is null while token is which i provides
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
How do you know token isn't defined as empty or something?
Full snippet please
himanhsu
@Himanshu54
@MadLittleMods thats pretty much it ... P.S. i'm using it in atom text editor package
Cody Loyd
@codyloyd
hey dudes - what's the 'snapshot' thing all about?
I've been using the api client with much success for a while now... but I still haven't figured out what it does, or is supposed to do.
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@codyloyd My understanding is that it gives you the full state to work from when getting changes from the streamed things
Cody Loyd
@codyloyd
alright.. thanks
I've found that with what I'm using it for, I don't need it at all.
Cody Loyd
@codyloyd
wow.. quiet in here lol
my question: is there any way to listen for one-to-one messages from any user? I know you can connect to a one-to-one room with a specific user just like you connect to a regular room, but I'd rather any user be able to PM my bot in gitter.
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@codyloyd I think https://github.com/freeCodeCamp/camperbot does something similar

@KonstantinPaul
Hello guys I'm quite new to Gitter.im. I'm kind of pleased with the documentation and especially the apps/demos for gitter as "node-gitter" for e.g.
My question is: under https://developer.gitter.im/apps I can register apps. But for what purposes do I need that can't I do everything like joining rooms listen to conversation with a (test) user/bot account? And If they are needed how do I "code" this?
Thanks for answers :)
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@KonstantinPaul You can everything with a token by itself like you're finding.

But if you you're building an app where you want others to sign in like a 3rd party Android app, then you can create that so people can go through the OAuth sign in flow

@KonstantinPaul You can see an example with how we use it in the desktop app: https://gitlab.com/gitterHQ/desktop#running-the-development-version
KonstantinPaul
@KonstantinPaul
@MadLittleMods : Thanks for the answer :). That cleared my question. So KEY and SECRET are just necessary, if I build an app like the "desktop app" which allow my users to access gitter for e.g..
Me and my group are developing a library to simplify the access of different chat platforms (gitter, ms-teams, slack). So our "user" is the developer of a chatbot application.
Our idea was that he registered a "test" account and use the token of his "test" account to act as a bot.
After that he just configures the credentials and can write his bot.
I'm new to bot development but is this the "recommended" way? Any hints?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@KonstantinPaul Using a token is just fine.
