@MadLittleMods
@serapath You can track gitlab-org/gitter/webapp#2021 for a more customizable theme
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
cool, i commented on that issue
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@serapath Thanks for the updates! I gave it another round of review
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
alright - added some more updates
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
@MadLittleMods
  1. any news on this one? :-)
  2. also - is anyone working on "more customizable theme"?
  3. seems there are quite a lot of open issues - has gitter ever considered bounties to get more of it's issues done?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@serapath There is still some review feedback left to address on gitlab-org/gitter/webapp!1590

No plans to implement gitlab-org/gitter/webapp#2021 at the moment. There are bounties for finding security issues but not others, https://hackerone.com/gitlab

Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
alright - maybe it's worth to consider other types of bounties too.
security bounties are something with tradition, but times change - why not :D
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@serapath It would be something more to bring up on the GitLab issue tracker. I don't see something existing https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/issues?scope=all&utf8=%E2%9C%93&state=opened&search=bounty

But there is a feature request to add that bounty feature to GitLab iteslf (aside from your actual question),

Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
i'm quite busy with my own project, but i help run a charity (www.wizardamigos.com) and our community lives on https://gitter.im/wizardamigosinstitute/program and we have poor people from all over the world who we try to help to learn programming and we would love to give them remote earning opportunities while they learn...
anyway - nothing urgent
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
alright
updated the pull request with comments
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath
let me know if it's ready to merge
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@serapath The MR will be approved and merged once the review points there are addressed, gitlab-org/gitter/webapp!1590

But we may want to switch gears to solve it, https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/webapp/merge_requests/1590#note_221665234

Hareem-E-Sahar
@Hareem-E-Sahar
I want to download the messages from public chat rooms but one has to be part of the room to download the messages. I only see a couple of rooms on the website so how do I join them without seeing them on the website?
why can't I see all the rooms?
Hareem-E-Sahar
@Hareem-E-Sahar
Is there a way to join all public rooms through the api?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@Hareem-E-Sahar Sounds like you are after gitlab-org/gitter/webapp#2129

There isn't a way to discover every single room. You can search for rooms or use the explore page https://gitter.im/explore

Hareem-E-Sahar
@Hareem-E-Sahar
You are right @MadLittleMods
The explore page shows a lot less than what Gitter claims to have (900K chatrooms)
Philip Durbin
@pdurbin
@Hareem-E-Sahar are you sure you have to join a public room to download messages?
Hareem-E-Sahar
@Hareem-E-Sahar
@pdurbin YES, that's what I read in the API documentation. If I know a room joining it is not a problem. so the main problem here is discovering all the rooms.
Tomas
@viktomas
@Hareem-E-Sahar What would be the use case in which you want to get messages from a larger number of rooms that you are not currently part of?
Hareem-E-Sahar
@Hareem-E-Sahar
@viktomas I want to do topic analysis on the chats
Philip Durbin
@pdurbin
@Hareem-E-Sahar sounds like a fun project
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@Hareem-E-Sahar We don't have a way to extract all of the messages from the network. gitlab-org/gitter/webapp#2129 is what you should track and maybe create an issue to make some data dumps like other platforms have, https://console.cloud.google.com/marketplace/browse?filter=solution-type:dataset&pli=1
Hareem-E-Sahar
@Hareem-E-Sahar
@MadLittleMods yes I am clear on it now. thanks.
I found someone who has some data but they seem unwilling to share.
Alexander Praetorius
@serapath

@MadLittleMods is it merged? What is stopping the PR? Should I do something else?
In our app, people switch themes and i would love to be able to adapt the gitter chat accordingly :-) ...but i see, the gitter project is not set up in a very flexible manner and it is quite hard to get changes merged i guess.

any chance this might get merged somehow? gitlab-org/gitter/webapp!1590

Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@serapath There is still feedback on that MR to address. And there is a bigger conversation around whether it is the right approach, https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/webapp/merge_requests/1590#note_221665234

Happy to move it along after it is addressed

@sparr You can chat about using the Gitter API and developing Gitter stuff.

But no random chat about other problems

@MadLittleMods thank you a lot
@MadLittleMods situation when user from gitlab but not marked in username _gitlab possible? maybe if you added this stuff recently
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@uuttff8 Not yet. It will be possible when gitlab-org/gitter/webapp/-#1851 is done (future future)
Anton Kuzmin
@uuttff8
@MadLittleMods thx

@uuttff8

@MadLittleMods I know that we are getting Faye /api/v1/rooms/:roomId/chatMessages message from yourself before response from Rest /chatMessages, so Faye is faster than Rest. when i got message from Faye, how can I know if this message was sent from my own client?

related to https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/webapp/-/issues/2469#note_315352867

Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods

@uuttff8 You won't know just from the response.

You can use the method I mentioned in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/webapp/-/issues/2469#note_315352867 to remove the temporary message you show in your UI while the request is loading

Anton Kuzmin
@uuttff8
hm okay
I can't implement your method without knowing what is it
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@uuttff8 That is for threaded conversations but you can adapt that function to just be tmp-${userId}-${text.substring(0, 64)}
Anton Kuzmin
@uuttff8
ok thx
@MadLittleMods impl in your way but I think that lags are fixable
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
@uuttff8 Nice! Hope you can get it all figured out
Anton Kuzmin
@uuttff8
just tested update and deleting and it works
@MadLittleMods yeah thx
I think it happens because I have animations, and you dont
