@ryebread23 Try logging what is happening https://github.com/gitterHQ/desktop#enabling-logging-on-windows

You could also start it from CMD with --remote-debugging-port=1234 and visit localhost:1234 to inspect the instances

Ok, going through the steps now.
Alright, I have a log of some events from starting up Gitter.

Just to say, I started using Gitter as part of Free Code Camp, so I'm relatively new-ish.
Should I send you a screenshot of the log I have?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 20:15
Yes, post it here if there isn't anything senstive
Ryan
@ryanjoya
Jun 02 2016 20:22
I don't know enough as to whether the log does have anything sensitive or not, but here are the first 3 screens
hmm, or I guess I have to find an image host instead of drag and drop
Ryan
@ryanjoya
Jun 02 2016 20:27
linked are the first 3 screens, the host says the page is deleted after the first view, I can change the settings and set up a different link if needed

@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 20:29
I'd prefer you just drag and dropped them here or something that isn't temporary, https://imgur.com/

Can you export/copy as text and dump it in a gist. Judging from the scrollbar, you are missing many entries in the screenshots, https://gist.github.com/

In the end, the reply at the bottom was what eventually fixed it

@0xicl33n
Jun 02 2016 21:07

Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 21:07
@0xicl33n The app doesn't work behind a proxy, gitterHQ/desktop#143 gitterHQ/desktop#49 gitterHQ/desktop#26
im using privoxy as a transparent, systemwide proxy though..
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 21:08

Eric Eastwood

What is the window.location on the various frames?
0xicl33n
@0xicl33n
Jun 02 2016 21:23
where would that be under
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 21:24
Just go to the devtools console and run window.location on each frame listed at the top. The first <top frame>, mainframe, etc
0xicl33n
@0xicl33n
Jun 02 2016 21:26
Location {replace: function, assign: function, ancestorOrigins: DOMStringList, origin: "app://gitter", hash: ""…}ancestorOrigins: DOMStringListlength: 0__proto__: DOMStringListassign: function () { [native code] }arguments: nullcaller: nulllength: 1name: ""prototype: Object__proto__: function Empty() {}<function scope>hash: ""host: "gitter"hostname: "gitter"href: "app://gitter/loggedin.html"origin: "app://gitter"pathname: "/loggedin.html"port: ""protocol: "app:"reload: function reload() { [native code] }arguments: nullcaller: nulllength: 0name: "reload"__proto__: function Empty() {}<function scope>replace: function () { [native code] }search: ""toString: function toString() { [native code] }valueOf: function valueOf() { [native code] }__proto__: Location
like this?
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 21:27
ye, window.location.href is actually better
0xicl33n
@0xicl33n
Jun 02 2016 21:27
"app://gitter/loggedin.html"
window.location.origin
"app://gitter"
Eric Eastwood
@MadLittleMods
Jun 02 2016 21:30
I just need window.location.href from each frame. Switch to the mainframe and ~contentframe and run the command as well
0xicl33n
@0xicl33n
Jun 02 2016 21:33
mainframe:
window.location.href
"https://gitter.im/"
top frame:
window.location.href
"app://gitter/loggedin.html"
i dont have a contentframe
i actually have to leave the house for about an hour, i can hop on gitter on my phone but im not sure how much help ill be there. anyway, ill return soon
