@Frodox Somebody asked about this a week or so ago and everyone agreed that it's time to support distros other than Debian and derivatives.
I don't recall there being a link to a tarball that came forth from that conversation.

I think tarbal is much easier then deb/rpm/.. and covers much more distros at the beginning, isn't it..?:) well, it is cool there is irc.gitter.im also, it helps a lot

Yes, I agree, and I think everyone else does. Not sure why no tarballs yet. But with the GitLab acquisition, I would expect that to change.
The project wasn't entirely open-source before, either, so maybe that had something to do with it.
(I'm just a user, by the way; don't take anything I say authoritatively :) )

the desktop app has always been open source, although it's basically just a web wrapper with some native bindings for icons, notifications etc...

Oh, just a web wrapper..same as slack/skype.. Ah, I'm disappointed :( ok, nobody cares about users :)
