@esden Just had two others try out http://update.gitter.im/osx/Gitter-4.1.0.dmg and it opened fine for them (one of them had macOS 10.13.4)
Any luck getting the build to work with a lesser version of Node.js?
com.apple.quarantineset. That does make sense as it is downloaded, so the security system needs the application to be approved. For some reason instead of asking for that permission it was showing that stupid error: "gitter is damaged can't be opened".
sudo xattr -cr Gitter.app. This removed the com.apple.quarantine attribute, and now
Gitter.appstarts up without any problems. Sorry for the trouble and noise, but if someone asks you about this issue you can tell them to do the above and see if it helps. :)
@esden Mind submitting a merge request to document the problem and your solution in the README under a FAQ section, https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitter/desktop/ ? We can also put the "Tray Icon on Ubuntu" section under the FAQ
Thanks for the details on your solution
