My main concern with a single dollar is that it might be too easy to unintentionally delimit text as mathjax, particularly in languages that use $symbols (eg PHP and Perl) Sean Allred @vermiculus Sep 02 2014 12:19 @suprememoocow Definitely a concern, and I did think about that. I would put that most code though would be input in $code\$syntax, so even languages that would trick a good regex (like the shell languages) should be good to go if used properly.
The good thing about markdown is that the ‘barrier’ (it’s early and I can’t think of a better word) to inserting code spans is painless; there’s no reason not to wrap it

The integration settings dialogue has two scrollbars
Also, for some reason the sentry integration is just a plain hook and not something you can simply enable from sentry's settings console
Mike Bartlett
@mydigitalself

will look into the scroll bars.
many of our integrations work like that. it would need Sentry to integrate with US rather than us integrating with them to get something in their settings console.

What's the best way to indent a LARGE block of code? Using TAB doesn't work
Mike Bartlett
@mydigitalself
Sep 02 2014 12:48
wouldn’t it be indented in your IDE? we’re be no means a fully featured text editor...
Sean Allred
@vermiculus
Sep 02 2014 12:48
are you talking about indentation for the purposes of code syntax, or for actual code indentation?
orliesaurus
@orliesaurus
Sep 02 2014 12:48
syntax inside gitter
what do you guys use/do ?
Sean Allred
@vermiculus
Sep 02 2014 12:48
because yeah, if you’re doing a copypasta—I’d create that in a real editor
Personally for larger blocks I’d prefer a gist

Sep 02 2014 12:49
but its many lines
how can I quadra-indent with spaces all a block at once?
Mike Bartlett
@mydigitalself
Sep 02 2014 12:49
i’d write it in an IDE and then paste it in Gitter

@vermiculus
Sep 02 2014 12:50
I think fence blocks are supported… trying…

real editors to include emacs :3
Which has me thinking—do you think it’s reasonable to create plugins for the popular editors to just send the buffer (or region) to a gitter room?
is there an API that would support this?
orliesaurus
@orliesaurus
Sep 02 2014 12:54
that sounds like a pain in the back to overcome copy/paste ?
(whats wrong with copy paste)
Andrew Newdigate
@suprememoocow
Sep 02 2014 12:55
@vermiculus - this already exists for Atom, but not any other editors yet afaik.
The API is documented here: https://developer.gitter.im

I don’t think you realize just how much time I spend in emacs :smile: a short keystroke is quicker than copy–paste
@suprememoocow thanks!

@mydigitalself yep it’s the composed mode indeed. I haven’t quite worked out how to do multiline code pastes properly yet it seems.
it adds the closing 3x which is nice, but i don’t understand how i would get out of the compose mode using just the keyboard
Mike Bartlett
@mydigitalself
Sep 02 2014 13:21
it should untoggle compose mode and soon as you hit cmd+enter

Sep 02 2014 13:23
@mz2 you can toggle using ⌘-/
orliesaurus
@orliesaurus
Sep 02 2014 13:23
yes, works here too
The untoggle doesn't work if you have a different layout btw
same problem on Ghost blogging platform, i had
Mike Bartlett
@mydigitalself
Sep 02 2014 13:25
you mean cmd+/ or the auto-untoggle?
orliesaurus
@orliesaurus
Sep 02 2014 13:26
cmd /
test
and the auto-untoggle too -_-"
it worked once, now it doesnt work again, let me force refresh
Testing auto-untoggle by sending CMD RETURN
nope. still toggled

Hi - I’ve removed this room (gitterHQ/gitter) from the sidebar, but it keeps reappearing there and indicating unread messages. Is there an extra step to leaving/deactivating a room you have been active in?
Chris Mitchell
@Chris7
Sep 02 2014 14:25
is there a way to rename a room?
@ryandeussing using /lurk and try that little screwdriver/wrench button in the upper right
Walter Carvalho
@waltfy
Sep 02 2014 14:29
@ryandeussing hey Ryan, to leave the room at the moment you need to type /leave or click leave in the settings dropdown, another alternative is to /lurk` as mentioned by @Chris7

@ryandeussing

Sep 02 2014 14:31
sweet, now my question about renaming rooms :)
Andy Trevorah
@trevorah
Sep 02 2014 15:30
@Chris7 I dont think that is possible at the moment
you could delete a room and create a new one, but you would lose all the history
Chris Mitchell
@Chris7
Sep 02 2014 15:36
thanks
Chris Mitchell
@Chris7
Sep 02 2014 15:45
@trevorah how do i delete a room?
Andy Trevorah
@trevorah
Sep 02 2014 15:47
at the moment you have to make everyone else leave before you can delete it
Chris Mitchell
@Chris7
Sep 02 2014 15:48
I did that
removed everyone
still no delete option
I left the room to see if that did it
which i'm believing is now a bad idea
