I have set up Git with Github. Now I want to do it for my own website. It's not on Github it's on a live server. My host gave me the SSH key, but I don't know where to put it, or how to tell Git to use it so I can connect to my site and start using it.
I've Googled for hours but I must be asking the wrong question because I cannot find an answer anywhere

It seems like you may be after the wrong thing.

You can setup a repo on GitHub then ssh into your server and clone it

Just to clarify, are you looking to setup https://pages.github.com/ ?

But I don't really need to use Github, or is that mandatory?
Because it is already on my live server on Siteground, and they have a Git cPanel add on

You don't need to use GitHub to manage a git repo but I am not sure why you mentioned them then
What are you trying to achieve?

lol only because I have no clue and I got Github working

I want to use Git with my server on Siteground to download the webiste, make my changes and push back up.

But I want to use Github for other projects that are already on Github which I don't own

So I guess I want to use both. And I guess that means two SSH keys
so one is working, but now I need to get the other one to work
I am not familiar with the cPanel addon for git or what complexity/configuration is added/needed for that

Seems straight forward, you click it and it does stuff and gives you an SSH key

If it is giving you a public key to add to your GitHub account for authentication, https://github.com/settings/keys

Ah ha, I found the remote url so I can clone. I think it failed because of authentication. So that must mean I need to add my SSH key somewhere
hmm none of the things you sent show me how to do that

@uglyeoin My last reply has a link to where you can add your SSH key

But I don't want to add the key to github I want to add it to git bash I think

note there is a public and private part of ssh keys, google some ssh tutorials to get a better understanding
