@lehnberg
For Bitcoin they do Jimmy on Bitcoin
jaspervdm
@jaspervdm
i suppose there's worse ways to be known as
lehnberg
@lehnberg
Perhaps that’s better?
as it implies I’m not coming from Grin. Grin doesn’t belong to me. I’m just commenting on it’s state...
hashmap
@hashmap
I like the principle of single responsible person
lehnberg
@lehnberg
ok will stop now. 🤐
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
I'm not sure this deserves that much attention, I like anything
hashmap
@hashmap
You manage it anyway, nothing wrong with Daniel from Grin for me
:+1:
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
anything else for this meeting?
lehnberg
@lehnberg
PoW status update?
We’re targeting dual PoW to be included as part of T4?
John Tromp
@tromp
i have pretty much validated the cuckatoo changhes
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
I guess that works, yes
John Tromp
@tromp
with working code, and seeing expected number of cycles
T4 will have dualpow with two placeholders
lehnberg
@lehnberg
  1. Open source miners will be provided for both PoWs?
  2. GPU & CPU?
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
so we're mostly committed to cuckatoo 31+ for the ASIC-friendly PoW, right @tromp ?
John Tromp
@tromp
for AF (asic friendly): cuckatoo29
and for AR (asic resistant): cuckatoo29
note that these are log # edges
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
but we're still a lot less committed for the AR one, it matters less however because there isn't a lot of preparation required for GPU minres
Antioch Peverell
@antiochp
wait what? There's no vanilla cuckoo anymore?
John Tromp
@tromp
we commit to change cuckatoo30+ placeholder to cuckoatoo32+ for mainnet
Gary Yu
@garyyu

How about launch a new funding campaign to buy the grin.org domain for the community? If after main net , it could be too late. Now that domain is listed for sale. but next year, could be not available anymore, or the price is on the moon.

perhaps now it’s the good time to acquire this domain?

hello everybody :smile:
John Tromp
@tromp
no vanilla cuckoo in T4 planned, no
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
@antiochp cuckatoo is just a "minor" tweak on cuckoo to simplify edge counting a tiny bit, mostly for ASICs
lehnberg
@lehnberg
$20k minimum offer for Grin.org. That’s a few months of Yeastplume.
Yeastplume
@yeastplume
Chasing domain names is overrated
Gary Yu
@garyyu
could be 25k USD.
Antioch Peverell
@antiochp
I thought it was cuckoo + cuckatoo as the two different PoWs... must have missed some of the later discussions...
lehnberg
@lehnberg
I prefer a few months of yeastplume personally.
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
I'm putting minor between quotes because the change to validation is minor, the miner still needs quite a bit
jaspervdm
@jaspervdm
i think that kind of money is way better spent on dev funds, security audits etc
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
yes, I'm ok with grin-*.org, including grin-coin.org maybe for that
@antiochp I guess @tromp decided it was easier to maintain with cuckatoo all around?
John Tromp
@tromp
if ppl prefer, i'm ok with cuckoo30 as AR placeholder as well
Antioch Peverell
@antiochp
(not pushing back on it, just didn't realize)
John Tromp
@tromp
yes, it's slightly simpler to code with cuckatoo only in T4
Antioch Peverell
@antiochp
:+1:
Gary Yu
@garyyu
can’t imagine Bitcoin had a domain like bitcoin-*.org, it’s a good chance grin.org is still available.
John Tromp
@tromp
i also want to maximize cuckatoo experience
lehnberg
@lehnberg

so ASIC resistant PoW will be subject to change / lots of tweaks still, as it’s ASIC resistant after all.

the ASIC friendly PoW will be Cuckatoo29, with an asterisk that it might still change? Or are we ready to commit to that? (hello all ASIC mfgs! 👋)

John Tromp
@tromp
cuckatoo30+ is just a placeholder for final cuckatoo32+
cuckatoo29 is placeholder for AR, not AF
Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
the ASIC friendly PoW will be Cuckatoo 30+, likely to be 32+ for mainnet release
John Tromp
@tromp
final AR still TBA
lehnberg
@lehnberg

@tromp above:

for AF (asic friendly): cuckatoo29
and for AR (asic resistant): cuckatoo30+
note that these are log # edges

Ignotus Peverell
@ignopeverell
I think he had them reversed
