Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
Using 2.8.2
I put breakpoints in eclipse
And it's not stopping at the breakpoints
I think there is a trick I seem to recall
You have to set up something in Chrome?
image.png
So, I run "Debug As / Development Mode in Jetty", set a breakpoint in Eclipse, and nothing happens
Brandon Donnelson
@branflake2267
gotcha
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
I've been using Classic Dev Mode for years, but recently the old Firefox version has stopped being compatible with newer Web APIs for obvious reasons.
Brandon Donnelson
@branflake2267
when the link shows in the development view at the bottom, right click on it and launch the chrome javascript debugger
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
I need to bite the Super Dev Mode bullet
Brandon Donnelson
@branflake2267
I know the feeling
I have some videos showing how I do it
Depends on the project config, the best option
There’s more than one way to do it
My favorite method for complex projects is using a customer web server, and using the code server to compile the bits into the project
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
Ah, that seems to be stopping at the breakpoints
But the hovers on variable values are not working, is that normal?
Brandon Donnelson
@branflake2267
Some breakpoints or locations are finicky
I’m not sure I remember
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
I can still inspect via the variables tab
So that's good
Brandon Donnelson
@branflake2267
I think hovering doesn’t work like it used to, you have to inspect them
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
There are also bugs in the variables tab
Actually, maybe not bugs
Seems that if there is an object with a .toString(), that it's not calling the toString() in the value column
image.png
Brandon Donnelson
@branflake2267
weird
yeah
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
I suppose I can live with it, if it means breakpoints
Thanks for your help
I would not have found that by myself
Colin Alworth
@niloc132
i think it is showing the constructor, so you know the type of that value
which sorta makes sense.. if your source wasn't obfuscated
that said, in obfuscated source, its not going to be called toString() any more, and might not even exist at all if the compiler doesnt think it is needed
(in OBF, it will tend to be called tS(), at least as of gwt 2)
gdiscord
@gdiscord
how can I post a screenshot here?
I have a 'classNotFoundException' error when running devmode, but my gwt app runs find, only that eclipse breakpoint is never triggered. And am suspecting that could be because of the devmode exception thrown - in the jetty tab.
gdiscord
@gdiscord
@branflake2267 from my internet search I see you reported that issue. But having gone through the responses still could not figure out how to resolve.
GWT Eclipse Plugin Running DevMode throws the famous jetty exception. #65
gdiscord
@gdiscord
putting GWT.debugger(); as the first line in onModuleLoad is not triggered. but my app runs fine in the browser.
Frank Hossfeld
@FrankHossfeld
@gdiscord just drop the screenshot into the gitter app
Didi you try to debug in Chromne using the devtools?
Colin Alworth
@niloc132
oh hi, over here too
Chris Ainsley
@ainslec
Hey @branflake2267 , how is it going? Just a question, does the Eclipse GWT plugin work with mavenized projects at all, and if so, how?
(Thomas Broyer plugin)
Zach Visagie
@ruzkant
@ainslec It is supported according to the docs... I haven't personally used it with the Broyer plugin though, but I have with old maven plugin (currently using gradle). https://gwt-plugins.github.io/documentation/gwt-eclipse-plugin/maven/Maven.html
protoism
@protoism
Hi guys. I wonder if the plugin is compatible with gwt 2.9.
Frank Hossfeld
@FrankHossfeld
as far as I remember you can add a new gwt version. So, it should work.
