Hello people, we made a major update to our docs: https://hackmd.io/c/codimd-documentation
If you found anything missing, please open an issue and we're love to help.

thank you @jackycute

hi all, any idea if load testing was done on a single instance hosting codimd, ideally on a dedicated server with 32G or 64G of RAM ?
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)

Hello, I would like to ask whether the bindDn and bindCredentials configs is crucial in CodiMD's LDAP authentication, and, what are the proper values for them.
pdiogo
@PedroMD
hello everyone!
I've been testing codimd now, and I may be missing something, but shouldn't signed-in users be able to check other signed-in users' Editable or Freely notes? because, as it is, signed-in users can only view theirs...
is there any special configuration i'm missing?
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
I believe currently there's no "global" view implemented yet, a common workaround is to manually compile all notes into a "book mode" note as a index however "book mode" isn't available in CodiMD (shrugs)
pdiogo
@PedroMD
hm, I see
that is too bad
was thinking of using CodiMD as our go-to for all things related to dev documentation, with shared notes / books with proper permissions
not suitable for the job, atm, but will keep an eye on future updates ;)
...or maybe i'll have to give hackmd a try
pdiogo
@PedroMD
what is the syntax for plantuml sequence diagrams on hackmd? doesn't seem to follow the same as codimd...correct?
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
I would say the two should be the same as there's no point differentiate them anyway...any examples?

codimd

@jackycute
@PedroMD Hi, HackMD.io currently is not supporting PlantUML yet, but in schedule.
Daniel Müller
@Daniel-WWU-IT
Hi everyone, I work for the University of Münster in Germany, and in the context of a large-scale pan-european project, we would like to discuss with someone about the (soon-to-be-public) CodiMD Web API and some extensions we need. I cannot disclose any more details about this project publically, so I’d be happy if someone from the hackmd/codimd team could reach out to me to have a chat about this!

@Daniel-WWU-IT You're very welcome to send email to max@hackmd.io or our support team support@hackmd.io !

@PedroMD
@jackycute oh, ok! got it, thanks. any ETA for this?
Max Wu
@jackycute
@PedroMD I will try to schedule it sooner, still no ETA at the moment.
pdiogo
@PedroMD
ok, thanks

hi! I'm working on getting my first instance of CodiMD running on a VPS; using the Docker install method. I'd like some help please, the container is starting without errors but it's not showing up at the specified URL/path
do I need to explicitly open or expose port 3000? should ipaddress:3000 be pingable?
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
You need to expose port 3000 for the web interface
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
I see - so apart from how it's already in the .yml file? https://hackmd.io/c/codimd-documentation/%2Fs%2Fcodimd-docker-deployment
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
The declaration in the compose yml file should do
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
alright, and there is no other docker setting that needs to be configured for this? perhaps my VPS needs configuration?
port 3000 is already in iptables
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
Do check the Firewall/ SELinux status
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
alright
when I search for the default firewall in Debian 10, I again get iptables

in my iptables, there's already this:

target prot opt source destination
ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:3000

then again, I should be able to ping ipaddress:3000 and get a reply, right?
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
Try curl http://localhost:3000
On the remote shell, of course
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
alright - empty reply from server
so I guess the iptables config is wrong still
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
Try curl https://localhost:3000
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
that gives OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to localhost:3000
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
If the firewall is really the problem flush the firewall rules should allow access to the site.
Check the output of docker-compose logs codimd after changing the working directory
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
you mean run that command in the same directory that the codimd docker-compose.yml is in?
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
Yep.
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
alright, well I've done iptables -F to flush the firewall and now there's a bunch of unhandled rejections in that docker log
林博仁(Buo-ren Lin)
@Lin-Buo-Ren
Docker also manipulates the firewall rules, to ensure the firewall state isn't broken I'd suggest reboot the system and reproduce the problem (and logs)
Steven Kruyswijk
@kruithoph_twitter
alright
