(Kinda surprised that compilers aren't warning us about returning reference-to-temporary-object; that wouldn't seem to be hard to detect...)

@abadams: ‘make test_apps’ has special logic for copying the apps for out-of-tree builds. When do we do out-of-tree builds? Some buildbot config?

Mark Horowitz's students are serious about getting their hardware synthesis stuff merged into master
They want to talk about testing strategy

Just realized that our Windows distros are probably wrong: the code for building them is in master.cfg, rather than in Makefile, and master.cfg hasn’t been kept up to date. Wonder how hard it would be to add ‘make distrib’ ability to CMake?

Aside from code review, if their changes are encapsulated into a backend, and they have a test_ target that we can run on the ubuntu bots with minimal dependencies to install, are people down with merging it?

I am in favor of getting hardware synthesis into Halide
Let me know if there is anything I can do
