Is yar set up to work with multiple instances of a server? I'm having issues with Cookies not being set, or overwritten.
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
As long as the servers share the same cookie encryption settings, and the same caching back store, then you should be good to go.
How much data are you storing in session?
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Just an auth key
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
@Eruant ^^
Same on all your servers?
When you setup yar you provide it with an encryption key for the cookie. That's what I'm talking about, fyi.
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Yes, that should be the same
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
ok...
Is this all localhost work, or production/staging?
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Yep
I'm using Docker to test locally, then deploying container to server
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
What version of yar?
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Server then creates instances
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
There was a recent issue with a hapi dependency that might be a problem
Matt Gale
@Eruant
8.0.0
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
well, that should be good to go
Can you check the network requests and see if the cookie is getting sent back and forth?
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Yeah I'll take a look
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
So each docker container is on a different port?
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Possibly
I'm using Google Compute Engine
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
Can you give me an example of the urls that you are using to connect?
couple examples
Matt Gale
@Eruant
I'll have to get some together and get back to you
It's late in the day for me :)
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
Ok, no worries.
My guess is that they are either on different hosts, or different ports
and therefore the cookies aren't actually shared
The network tab of your dev tools should clear up a lot about what's going on
If the servers aren't all using the same host name/port, then likely that is the source of your trouble
Matt Gale
@Eruant
Yes, that does sound like it could be the issue.
At least that's what will be happening behind the scenes. The public faceing site will always be at the same host / port
Mark Bradshaw
@mark-bradshaw
Once all the public facing servers are behind a load balancer you shouldn't have an issue.

hello guys - trying to set yar to use redis (catbox-redis) for session storage, server starts fine and I can use yar.set/yar.get but it doesn't seem to be persisting in redis, below are the versions - are there any ways to troubleshoot please?

catbox-redis : 3.1.1
catbox: 8.0.1
hapi: 16.5.2
yar: 8.1.2
