    Or is there a better place for provider-specific discussion? My assumption is that it's all based in github but i could be wrong

    @bcornils
    this is a good place for provider specific.
    Andrew Bobulsky
    @RulerOf
    Okay. I'll suggest people who come in with questions that are developing providers try their luck in here if no one has answers to their questions then.

    @bcornils
    yes please. I monitor it. I just happened to be on PTO so apologies for the delay

    I've started taking a look at the DLM resource this morning after being busy for a few weeks but after quickly hacking together a loose stab at it I'm getting a date parsing error when trying to decode the JSON response from the SDK. I'm not doing anything with the date yet but the DLM API returns the created/modified times but that's all inside the SDK, not my code. Am I missing something here? I can't see any issues on the Go SDK Github repo about this
    when I apply my resource I get:
    * aws_dlm_lifecycle_policy.example: 1 error(s) occurred:

    * aws_dlm_lifecycle_policy.example: SerializationError: failed decoding JSON RPC response
    caused by: parsing time "2018-08-13T11:49:27+0000" as "2006-01-02T15:04:05Z": cannot parse "+0000" as "Z"

    any maintainers/people who actually write Go more than once every couple of months able to help me debug why my new resource (terraform-providers/terraform-provider-aws#5558) doesn't properly refresh state for the nested policy_details config?
    don't get any panics/errors in the logs when refreshing, it just seems to ignore things so I must have missed something obvious

    Decided to give my own issue a go (terraform-providers/terraform-provider-aws#5656). I'm trying to figure out how to generate the hard-coded resource ID used in the acceptance tests. In my case, I'm trying to figure out how to determine the resource ID for aws_codebuild_project.artifacts block.

    have you pushed your code to your fork so we can see what you've tried?
    J. Taylor Mayfield
    @jtaylormayfield
    No I haven't. I have this thing about pushing code before the test is green :)
    Tom Elliff
    @tomelliff
    you can always rebase your changes afterwards and just commit it as a WIP commit
    otherwise it's difficult for people to be able to help you if they can't see your code :)

    I'm a complete newb in TF provider development and Go in general so I've got some knowledge gaps.

    @tomelliff
    same :)

    @jtaylormayfield
    I'll setup the fork and get back to you

    hey, is there any way for me to actually get my PR reviewed? it's been a few months since i created hashicorp/terraform#18533, and i created hashicorp/terraform#18794 for it in hopes that this would get it noticed. is there some important step i'm missing or do pull requests just take forever to get looked at?

    we are putting together a list of users who would like sneak peaks, provide feedback of potential features and roadmap.
    please ping me if you
    would like to be on that list

    We are developing a new custom provider. Is there a base repo to clone for the scaffolding? e.g. I notice that all custom providers have the same Travis config, GNUmakefile, etc.
    if that doesn't work/help I'd love additional information regarding what would be more beneficial as we are working on a revamp.
    i don't know that we have a base repo, I'll ask the dev team. I can see that as an obvious addition.

    Hi, I am the developer of terraform-qingcloud plugin. I submitted the tranfer plugin application six months ago. Now the plugin has been listed as a community provider. What do I need to do if I want to be a cloud provider?
    nitro
    @nitrocode

    anyone experienced with building custom terraform plugins in go?
    im trying to modify an existing plugin to login to the 3rd party upon resource creation so I can take advantage of data source outputs. The issue I have is that there is a race condition between the login to datadog while the resource is attempting creation.

    https://github.com/terraform-providers/terraform-provider-vault/issues/219#issuecomment-435622604

    would be nice if there was a a blog post or custom provider skeleton that implements MyClient correctly to avoid the race condition. I did find this but no client implementation so far besides digging through other providers. https://github.com/pyToshka/terraform-provider-skeleton

    @bfuller the sneak peaks thing sounds cool if that's still open?
    @bflad not sure if you check Gitter at all or if it's better to raise an issue/pull request but do you know if there is a reason behind why availability_zones doesn't conflict with vpc_zone_identifier in the aws_autoscaling_group resource? I can see terraform-providers/terraform-provider-aws@e772e54 where you added a comment in the docs suggesting that they shouldn't be used at the same time but I can't see why it doesn't just straight conflict in the schema similar to security_groups and vpc_security_group_ids on the aws_instance resource?
    Tom Elliff
    @tomelliff
    it would break a few test configs but think it should be fine once those changes are made, but don't know if there's any reasoning behind why they've not been set as ConflictsWith

    For anyone interested, I am doing a survey to understand how to better reduce the backlog for AWS and improve the contributor and user experience.
    I would love any responses, it's a short survey!
    and first time trying google forms so should work fine but let me know if you run into issues and share early and often to others
    Andrew Bobulsky
    @RulerOf
    @bcornils Looks like the form is private

    Hi All! I submitted an AWS provider bug 11 days ago where I cannot get an existing eip attached. Is this the right group for such matters or is there a specific AWS provider group?
    bfuller
    @bcornils
    via the GH terraform AWS Provider?
    that is the correct place but the team was crazy busy at re:invent and prepping for it so it may not have be addressed yet
    the terraform room may have community members who have already addressed it? and or different set of devs that might be able to chime in quicker
