ok, so yes, Plan is the parent for both Episode and Task.
But the episode initally exists without a plan (for first 24 hours)
or so
without plan or tasks that is

When plan comes back from the view I need to save plan, associate to episode, episode needs to be associated to plan.

I don't necessarily think your configuration is syntactically wrong, it's probably just working differently than you're expecting it to work

Ok. It has been also suggested from a design point of view I am better to use a DTO backing object rather than entity for the plan page, which might make this relationship management easier

Possibly. Typically you bind your page to an object like that and then your service interfaces with that
It all depends though. No architecture is perfect
