I thought I heard a rumor that someone was working on a JS editor window that works from within the interface. Is that true? Anybody know about that project?

Nevermind. cozza13 pointed it out: Tools --> Script Editor...

so interface isn't working on ubuntu anymore
Mika Impola
@polac
May 08 2014 14:16
@kzzch just pulled latest version, compiled and started the interface. Seems working. I am using linux mint 15.
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 14:16
i think i figured out the problem
Mika Impola
@polac
May 08 2014 14:17
Good!
Too bad that I didn't make any notes when I was fighting with all the dependencies and stuff awhile back.
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 14:18
well, i had it working yesterday, i think what happened is i switched from using qxmpp built from source to the ubuntu libqmpp-dev and that's why it stopped working
so i uninstalled the package and i'm rebuilding from source and giving it another go
because it compiles everything fine but seg faults when i try to run it
Mika Impola
@polac
May 08 2014 14:20
Ah, yes. I also remember installing something to my machine and had to later recompile some libs from the source...
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 14:20
I have compiled on windows and osx, about to try my first linux build, was just reading up about some of the talk between centos and ubuntu, since I didnt find any direct info on centos I did not want to face an uphill battle on first start so I decided to go with ubuntu and just build the services, not the interface, beginning my journey now in a kvm with ubuntu server 14.04 lts
I am Coal in HiFi, been too sick to login much first part of alpha but looking forward to doing more going forward
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 14:22
i ran it through gdb and the crash was being caused by something in qxmpp
Mika Impola
@polac
May 08 2014 14:25
@Holoshed so you are running one of the services like voxel server. Cool. I need to try that at somepoint.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 14:43
@polac that is correct, I wanna play with the services side as I have multiple servers I use for virtualization
so I figured put the extra IPs and host system capacity to use lol
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 14:46

well, i think i can write a definitive guide to building on Ubuntu now
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 14:51
i submitted a bug report yesterday... is there any way i can close it now that i know what was causing it?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 14:54
@kzzch since I am setting up the base system still, got any tips outside of what is on the build wiki for ubuntu for a successful build environment setup?
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 14:57
the big ones are you have to build qxmpp and gnutls from source, i think you can use the packages for the rest of the dependencies
if you can't get gnutls to build, don't forget to apt-get nettle-dev
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 14:59
thank you very much! Letting someone show you the way is always better than banging your face into the wall until you find a successful portal
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 15:00
lol, well, i only know because i banged my face against the wall until i found the successful portal :p i did have some help from @thoys and a few others though
i might have to start up a vm of my own just to make sure i've got all the steps down properly
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 15:02
lol, lord knows I have broken my nose enough times trying to find the right fix, and I wonder if it would compile and work on openvz
if so, I can give you a container for a little bit to test the build at least
if it failed, I could give you one with kvm (full virtualization), I am just tempted to know if it compiles in openvz
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 15:07
couple more things i just remembered, they said they were switching from gnutls to openssl so i'm not sure if that's a dependency or not anymore and uh, i had some issues with qt5 dev libraries too
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 15:50
@kzzch do you know how to get the backtrace from a core dump?
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 15:53
uh not exactly?
i mean i figured out which library was causing my issue using gdb but i resolved it by going back to the library i built from source
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:02
ok I was curious because issue #3 on donedone shows segmentation fault in the logs, which means it tried to dump core.
It is possible to load the coredump in a debugger and see what it was doing when it crashed, which andrzej was suggesting you do
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:03
i think you have me confused with someone else?
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:04
however it won't dump core unless it has been enabled in your environment.
Hrm... I don't think so. This issue was mainly about "cannot open file .../reload.svg". The directories in the report have your username.
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:05
oh... well, that doesn't seem to have been the issue
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:06
ok, shall I close it?
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:06
it's still saying that now but it runs fine after i removed the libqxmpp.so installed by the ubuntu package manager and reinstalled it from source
yeah, i was asking earlier if i could. i didn't know how to check on if it even submitted correctly or whatnot
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:08
ah I see. So Andrzej was correct in his last comment -- it tries to load from the wrong place, logs that, and then tries again in the correct place. But your crash was caused by something else.
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:08
yeah
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:09
Ok, chis opened the issue. I'll either close it or else look into why it is first looking in the wrong place.
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:11
also the segfault went away when i ran it as root, it just failed silently
but again, if you build qxmpp from source it works fine
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:12
Ok good to know.
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:13
just out of curiosity where is the issue? i couldn't find it and wasn't sure if it was submitted correctly?
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
May 08 2014 16:17
@AndrewMeadows did you try the Script Editor?
@thoys , I did open it, but didn't try to write a script
is that your project @thoys? What are your plans for future work on that?
Jeremiah Biard
@kzzch
May 08 2014 16:19
oh lol, i guess i don't have access to that
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:20
ok kzzch. I was led to believe that you could access it, but maybe not. I'll ask chris what expected access is.
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
May 08 2014 16:21
@AndrewMeadows , yes I did that as my first worklist job, there are still some things I like to fix, like copy&paste a code into it and it also takes the style from the webpage that you copy from, and after you put a { it should auto indent.
also if you select multiple lines and use the tab key, all text you had selected is gone hehe
and maybe autocomplete for example you type Voxel. and it shows you the possible functions in the Voxel interface
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 16:24
@thoys wasnt it you who earlier said you got it compiled in centos? I am not looking to compile the interface just services
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
May 08 2014 16:24
Yes, I didn't compile the interface on centos, just the services @Holoshed :)
domain thoys.nl is running on it
Andrew Meadows
@AndrewMeadows
May 08 2014 16:26
I've been talking to a prospective worklist dev who has expressed interest in working on the JS script interface/API. He mentioned that he'd also like to work on an embedded editor. I was asking about it because I was pretty sure we already had a start on that. Anyway, perhaps he'll eventually join to help.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 16:27
sweet, mid doing like a pastebin or something if you havnt already with what repos you used if outside of ordinary and your yum install list? I just figured I would rather that then ubuntu since I am more used to it
mid = mind

May 08 2014 16:38
@AndrewMeadows thats cool, might be helpful :)
@Holoshed did you already start your Centos build?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 16:45
@thoys no, to be honest, I have actually been working on other projects, got a kvm install of ubuntu setup but shut it down for a bit and been working on other projects for a second, I am about to spin up a centos vm and start doing the basics
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
May 08 2014 16:47
thats cool, got a gmail adress? I was working on a google doc on building on centos, maybe you can help it finish
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 16:49
sure sure! I am willing to contribute as I go, lets see if this gets mangled by spell check fixedbit@gmail.com
there we go
I am using openvz, centos 6.5 x64 template but nothing depends really on kernel changes here so I dont see any issues

ok i have no idea of how to use the window interface.exe. no account for sandbox and i seem to not have an account for the hifi server. i know i had a problem with Comcast and dealing with my opensimulator, but for a client it should not be a problem.

no, is alpha over?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 17:26
To actually access the main world, the alpha forums etc then you do need access to the alpha program but as I am just a nobody tester, I cannot speak for more than just that, but staff do watch here and I just wanted to help best I could
You can do what I did before alpha actually started and locally compile interface and the services and connect to your own play world at 127.0.0.1, but that is not an official answer, just a tide you over
Bristle
@bristle2008
May 08 2014 17:36
ok, so i have to recompile to work at 127.0.0.1. thanks @Holoshed
Jason Hawks
@nbq
May 08 2014 17:38
@bristle2008 well, if client runs fine then just compile services as per wiki then run them to have your own private world

Hello to everyone. Sometime ago I decided that I need to teach myself bitcoin. And I also thought that hifi+bitcoin would be like match made in heaven. So I started implementing wallet inside hifi. Just for fun and for myself. Then I read the blog post about hifi architecture. There it was. Somekind of crypto will be used in hifi. Is it there already? Can't find it. Have you guys seen any backlog/roadmap?
