Hello there, are there any thoughts/experiences on implementing https://code.google.com/p/update-engine/ (mac) , https://code.google.com/p/omaha/ (win) , for updating the hifi interface? Google Chrome uses it for years, and I never had problems with it, just saves some button clicks once and a while.

is there any plan to use a different scripting engine than Qt's? I really want typed arrays :(

@jmgrosen sorry - haven’t been in gitter for a while
I’m looking at that line you linked to in NodeList
that definitely looks off
fixed @jmgrosen thanks

Anyone agreeing or opposing the idea of an autoupdater? xD

@judasshuffle
Jun 12 2014 21:18
id agree if theirs an option to turn it on or off
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
Jun 12 2014 21:22
@judasshuffle , I think it should be on by default, and have multiple channels, like a stable one, and one that updates every commit
Judas
@judasshuffle
Jun 12 2014 21:29
if it bypasses having to login to update somehow
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
Jun 12 2014 21:30
@judasshuffle , was thinking of that, maybe some kind of authentication key?

@birarda any small bugs or features I could look at fixing/implementing? (like you suggested on the /r/Oculus AMA)

hm, I don't actually have a Rift yet :/
and I assume you'd want me to actually test it on the hardware

@birarda I'm currently in the middle of updating a Second Life viewer to Oculus SDK 0.3 ...
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
Jun 12 2014 22:14
the ctrl+alt + viewer? @ctrlaltdavid ?
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Jun 12 2014 22:14
It might be a little more work than one might originally think, esp. if taking advantage of new SDK distortion rendering rather than own shaders
@thoys Yep, that's the one

nice, I've used it like a month ago when I showed my oculus to some friends that are fanatic opensim users

Jun 12 2014 22:15
... I'll know how much work it is once I've done it : ) ... Would be keen to do Worklist 19777 after

Jun 12 2014 22:16
Did they change their whole api? xD
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Jun 12 2014 22:18
Pretty much. It's a C API now, some pretty significant changes and improvements ... getting ready for DK2 onwards

Nice the hydra script to click on interface buttons is nice

Jun 12 2014 22:20
Partilcular improvements: SDK rendered distortion (rather than roll-you-on, recommended); new frame timing for improved orientation prediction; "timewarp" reprojection of scene just before it's displayed on monitor.

@ctrlaltdavid
Jun 12 2014 22:26
@birarda Cool! ... I look forward to getting stuck into 19777. ... Will iron out SDK issues in my SL viewer first.
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
Jun 12 2014 22:26
does that help alot with motionsickness?
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Jun 12 2014 22:27
@birarda Note that SDK 0.3 is still preview ... it's continuing to change and be updated with fixes
Stephen Birarda
@birarda
Jun 12 2014 22:27
yeah - perhaps by the time you get done with the SL viewer the DK2 will be out and it’ll be hammered down!
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Jun 12 2014 22:28
@thoys Oh, yeah! And "presence". Espcially when used with DK2 which has the motion tracking camera.

Jun 12 2014 22:30
@thoys There's Xbox 360 and SpaceNavigator, but no hydra at present. I ordered a pair of Hydras last week, though. Thought bought them for HiFi Interface rather than viewer
Chat window not working in debug builds bugs me. (Though it may just be my dev setup.)

Jun 12 2014 22:33
@jmgrosen is there a particular part of the system that you’d like to work on?
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
Jun 12 2014 22:33
@ctrlaltdavid for debug use the debug qxmpp build, and for release, release
jmgrosen
@jmgrosen
Jun 12 2014 22:33
@birarda well I've read through some of the networking and assignment-client code, but I'm guessing there's probably not much to do there

Stephen Birarda
@birarda
Jun 12 2014 22:37
well - you can certainly bid a bit higher than that if you’d like to get paid for your work
: )
(assuming you’ve setup your paypal and W-9 if you’re a US citizen with Worklist)
jmgrosen
@jmgrosen
Jun 12 2014 22:38
mmm, paypal doesn't like < 18 people :/
Stephen Birarda
@birarda
Jun 12 2014 22:38

well, I’m sorry to hear that
you’re welcome to bid $0 if you just want to contribute for now
