Hi All, first time here. Have just compiled and run interface, domain and assignment (build instructions perfect btw, compiled and ran first time). I set the domain to localhost. I have a screen up, I can see an avi of some sort hovering high above a planet surface. I can't move, but I can rotate, that's all. Screenshot here: http://davedub.co.uk/downloads/hf/stuck-with-this-view-no-up-or-down.jpg Not sure how to proceed - I wanted to have a look at a bug or two, maybe put a bid in. I see a login when I first start up - do I need an HF login to be able to move around?

@DaveDubUK That isn't a planet. It's the end of a cylinder on which the stars are projected. You probably wants to move upwards a whole end until it's gone ;). Try pressing and holding 'e'.

Now now, let's not play jokes on the newbies... too much. That isn't a planet, it is an experimental atmospheric effect that we haven't yet pulled out of the code. Disable it with SHIFT+A.

lol - ah, ok, I turned it off. I can see I am moving by the coords at the top, but the world is empty. I've tried connecting to both root.highfidelity.io and localhost (with domain and assignment servers running) but the view is always as pictured above. Is this expected?

Hmm, that wasn't a joke - I really thought the stars are projected on a cylinder. Anyway, however they work - it's bad :P. Stars definitely don't group together in a line on some kind of "horizon" ;)

thanks, all set up. I can't find any sort of directory or list of actual locations though - I still have a 'Failed domain server lookup' error for thoys.nl/0,0,0 and root.highfidelity.io is still blank...

ah u did go to domain?
AlericInglewood
@AlericInglewood
Jul 17 2014 16:43
@DaveDubUK It's possible to be on a domain server and only see stars because they are pretty big. On my domain server when I'd be at a random place, I'd also only see stars because the construct (as high as about 50 avatars) is so small that it is hard to find!

Hi All, I do have an account already, am signed in. But going to hifi://thoys.nl/0,0,0 doesn't seem to take me anywhere and the console reports a failed domain lookup again

@murillodigital Thanks :. Sorry, but I'm getting pretty frustrated by the lack of chat here. And apart from Andrew it seems that nobody even sees my messages. Also things I ask in private seem to be ignored (for days now). It gives a pretty negative impression.

I always have before... I get like 300 a day, so I possibly accidentally deleted it. It's been known to happen.
If there happens to be one going on and I'm not around, would you please ping me on Skype?

How does one upload a model with different LODs?
Clément Brisset
@Atlante45
Jul 17 2014 19:54
@ctrlaltdavid there is different tags in the fst files that specify which fbx correspond to which LOD I believe.
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Jul 17 2014 19:56
@Atlante45 Thanks. What about uploading an attachment with different LODs (i.e., no FST file)?

Animating mesh models ... the "animation URL" is just the path to a JavaScript file?
Clément Brisset
@Atlante45
Jul 17 2014 21:08
@ctrlaltdavid I’m not sure you can have different LOD using only one FBX.
You can though use an fst for an attachment I’m pretty sure.
For the animation, the is the url of an fbx file containing an animation.
Chris Collins
@cozza13
Jul 17 2014 21:16
@judasshuffle that windows issue should be fixed with the latest update
Judas
@judasshuffle
Jul 17 2014 21:32
ah thanks @cozza13
@ctrlaltdavid the different lods are separate fbx's referenced in the fst file
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Jul 17 2014 21:38
@Atlante45, @judasshuffle Thanks very much! ... I wonder if any FST files have links to a FBX specifically for animation. (Am thinking of the "Animation URL" for in-world mesh models.)
Clément Brisset
@Atlante45
Jul 17 2014 21:41
@ctrlaltdavid I don’t think we check for that kind of tag in the fst, animation have to be loaded separately.
