Interface windows 1479 is loading a dialog for "Tools" that's a blank box - only script I run on load is walk.js - thinking that's not intentional. If you have newEditEntities.js running its populated with its GUI elements.

@OmegaHeron Does the menu come up when you first open interface?

isnt that from the newEditEntities?

@thoys Yes, although the tools window itself is implemented in C++

I'm not on Windows right now, but when I am I can test it out @OmegaHeron

thanks
will see if 1480 exhibits same
1480 with only walk.js loaded (I don't use defaultscripts.js) I still see an empty GUI element (box) for tools. If I launch with neweditentities.js enabled I see box with populated as expected for edit - but I would think that should not display until you activate the edit script. If you toggle edit on/off box goes away.

a 10 meg size limit for avatars is a bit small

Are specular, normal and gloss maps used?
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Nov 19 2014 03:24
not yet, last I heard.
normals def don't render as I tested that much.

Well I am using a mixamo fuse character. I download the rigged character (7 megs) but I have to edit it because hifi says some textures have alpha channels that are "opaque". So when I resave it it is almost 11 megs, which hifi will not accept

I've always ignored that warning, but having not fooled with AVs dunno. On other objects it complains but works.

well I cant see my avatar. I thought it wasnt working because thats the only error i get
so I guess mixamo fuse characters wont work out of th ebox then

It could be the rule is diff for AVs. AVs seem to use a very different processing pipeline than other objects.
CrackerHax
@CrackerHax
Nov 19 2014 03:28
well this is a problem because if hifi is using mixamo standards most people are going to be using fuse avatars

only thing I know for sure is if I include normals they're evaluated and seen as part of the FBX but don't render.

and hifi wants to be easy for the standard user. if they have to edit the file its going to be too hard

hard to say what it'll be in a year or so. It's already changed near past recognition in my 4 months fooling around here.

I have to admit, we are truely in a hard core alpha that each of us is really lucky to get in. Like @OmegaHeron said so much has changed even in 4 months, let me check… I got my invite March 31st

I think more of it as pre-alpha most days.

It is pre-alpha! I mean I remember when the servers basically just did nothing except you could put down a box, you had your domain but no real indication of how that domain fit into the world at large. Now you really can see it
Joe Large [Omega Heron]

I spent like 4 hours getting stuff compile to get a empty cube with a bright light I could drop a box in after spending another hour figuring out how to drop the damn box

at least it didnt take 40 hours to compile like the sl viewer :P

Philip is a dreamer, something I admire so very much about him, I admire the entire crew of HF because I know this is something that is uncharted territory. I joined SL in 2005 and I think I am one of the few old farts who never get bored of it.

tho it takes 3 days to compile QT 5 on a raspberry pi and doesn't work properly using a cross compiler.
so after 3 days compiling I get all happy to run a stack on raspi only to discover I compiled the wrong point version of QT
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Nov 19 2014 03:39
Yeah rPi is a world unto it self, I have my original sitting in a box behind me doing nothing… I need to do something with it

I put that project on next year list lest I break it into bits.
I have 23 of them running DSP signal analysis... thought it would be fun to run stack on one.
