BTW... I've had a question for some time; Is Hifi fully open source? As in, both the server and the client? Asking because Second Life also calls itself FOSS, yet only the viewer is available, Linden kept the server software to their self and their own grid. Good thing there's Opensim... hopefully Hifi won't need an Opensim of its own :)

@MirceaKitsune Yes, both the client and servers are open source. You can find the code on github: The client is in “interface”, the domain server code in “domain-server” and the different servers in “assignement-client"

Thank you... very nice! So people will be able to make their own grids, decentralized from any official login system? This will certainly be a fantastic project :)

For more information, you can read the 2 first articles here: https://highfidelity.io/blog/page/3/ (Details: Authentication in High Fidelity/High Fidelity System Architecture) They explain what exactly will be open source and what won’t (e.g. Currency management) But the few closed source services are only optiionnal services provided by High Fidelity.

Back. Thanks for the extra info. Yeah... it makes sense that the currency system doesn't go open, that would be quite prone to abuse. Still, people can make and host their own worlds, and that's what matters. No more "main grid" where you must always pay Linden to own land, and where LL's policies tell you what you can or can't do on a sim or something.

Well I hope transaction fees arent very high because it doesnt take much work to use crytpocurrency.
I could actually see people not using the currency at all in favor of their own implemented pay ststems
