@nbq After I stopped the servers there were no hifi processes running. I got things running again but I had to put back all the render settings. They all got cleared by the crash. I then had to restart the domain processes twice and finally I started showing servers running again on interface. Whew!

@morrisford, you checked the logs to make sure there are no errors about writing your backups and so forth?

@nbq I now have models in world. All the models I was trying to use from Sketchfab were coming down with no textures apparently. So, I went to the Sketchup repository and got some models, exported as collada, converted to fbx and loaded ok.
@nbq I'll have to look at the logs if it crashes again. Restarting twice blew everything away I suspect.

Also if it helps you any these are the commands I use to make sure all of the servers get shut down, kill $(ps aux | grep '[d]omain-server' | awk '{print $2}') and kill $(ps aux | grep '[a]ssignment-client' | awk '{print $2}')
collada to fbx should work since its a little better format for all virtual worlds in general, so thats good

@nbg Thanks. I added that to my ever growing list of useful stuff. This is a lot of fun except when it isn't.
I was going to write startup and shutdown scripts tomorrow.

also with nohup you can choose where you log to, such as nohup ./domain-server &> $HIFILOGDIR/domain-$TIMESTAMP.log& of course you can guess what I use for the variables

And 'nohup' log file rollers and such.

I can share mine with you if you wish, I have it run as root spins off a function as the hifi user

also one bit of info, you either have to use pushd /path/to/domain-server or something like that to make it load and save stuff correctly
and okie, see you later

Hey, does anyone else have the issue where entities are only created locally while having a running entity assignment server?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Jan 26 2015 16:00
i did the other day but it ended up being the server could not write the files/backup files, what does your asset server logs say @thoys

Jason Hawks
@nbq
Jan 26 2015 16:05

you got assignment-client and domain-server moved into their own directory?
Thijs Wenker
@thoys
Jan 26 2015 16:17
just their default location
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Jan 26 2015 16:17
ok, first, just to test, kill all the servers
then copy domain-server, resources in domain-server dir, and assignment client to a new directory somewhere
so all 3 are in the same directory
then from that directory, write these commands
nohup ./domain-server &> domain.log&
nohup ./assignment-client -n 4 &> assignment.log&
then you can do a tail -f assignment.log to see real time changes

Jan 26 2015 16:21
where did the settings.json move?
domain-server used to have the config file with it
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Jan 26 2015 16:22
~/.config/High Fidelity/domain-server
has your config.json

Jan 26 2015 16:22
hmm, thats not so nice
well, 1 user per domain wont hurt
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Jan 26 2015 16:24
yeah its how they made it, all the settings I have found go there now, i guess if you want to run multiple domains you need multiple users - well per system, but I dont think they have it designed for multiple per box yet as some of the port settings, mappings dont always work past default

Thanks for the help @nbq

welcome @thoys, I thought you had pulled all the newest code which is why I was asking about how you compiled it, but yay!
