@ZappoMan - a lot of users seem to be seeing no textures on some mesh objects - those objects are black and shiny (the default when HiFi doesn't like a texture source i.e. like me forgetting we don't like TGA). It turns out in, one case, the issue was the source image was not a power of 2 size (it was 550x550). Previously it accepted non-POT textures just fine.

it gets even more strange. It's not a power of two fail exactly. A 700x700 image works, but if you resize it to 550x550 (that's the size of one failing in Adrian's domain) it will not render. I've tried half dozen images jpeg and png - anything I scale to 550x550 won't show texture.

stranger and stranger. 550x550 = fail. 600x600=works. 650x650=fail.
So does it have to be a power of two or #00 to work or does it just not like #50

R1833 Windows displays anything you throw at it - 1836 to the current max (1838) is where problem came.

it's really strange - I ran a whole series of tests - documented in alpha forum and worklist item
