Actually @ZappoMan in ref to text entity. That's something I've kind of mentioned a "few" times. Its defaults were such that text was too big to see in its initial incarnation. Now line height is 0 with an initial size of 0.2,0.2,0.2 - something useable to see the pre-filled "some text" value is lineheight = .05 with a size of 0.6,0.3,0.2

waiting for it now

Feb 04 2015 02:23
oh I was talking to @OmegaHeron but yeah, if you watch whats compiling, does it show other stuff? and a few other stuff compiles with interface
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 02:23
yes, my bad
yes interface seemed fine
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 04 2015 02:24
compiled all well now, no failures?
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 02:24
see how it goes with the rest of it then I'll just try interface again if it fails
still building ;)

Nope - Blender's FBX exporter is a disaster. Fixing it is prolly more difficult than having collada as a source file for entities. Blender isn't really interested in FBX as an export format - thus its importer working far far better than exporter. And - what little effort is being placed into the exporter is surrounded by controversy and arguments over why a closed source format like FBX should even be in blender as an exporter. I can work around 90% of the current error set, but, that only applies to Blender 2.73 (2.72 has a very different set of issues) and will likely break when 2.74 comes out or 2.73.x should they point update.

I saw that Judas linked to a different fbx exporter in the forums, you tried it?
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 04 2015 02:27
yup - it has different sets of fails. I've wasted about 50 hours on this to date.
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 02:27
I really have had little problem myself with default exporter recently in 2.72

Try using specular and bump maps with custom lights and alpha transparency into HiFi with Blender FBX exporter then tell me how it goes.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 04 2015 02:28
he isnt an alpha yet, which, ive been working with him to get it compiled but can anyone invite him?
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 02:28
hmm, wll have to see
I use a lot of bump maps
specular is barely supported in the engine I'm using currently
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 04 2015 02:29
It works great for basics (and oddly enough armatures unless they broke that in 2.73 as they did do armature/bone updates in 2.73 exporter). With HiFi - textures with alpha do not render correctly as FBX exporter marks the influences incorrectly and uses a non-standard data block format for the texture defination.
Bumps don't work as they label them NormalMap blocks vs Bump
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 02:30
is that not a mterial definition thing?
*material
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 04 2015 02:30
yes - but if the FBX writer isn't on same idea of what is correct as HiFi is then it doesn't matter where you set
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 02:31
ok
transformation procedure?
would that be viable?
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 04 2015 02:32
HiFi's FBX support is based on output from Maya and, I think 3DS Max - Blender's FBX output is far from agreement with those. If you read the plugin source code it's filled with "we're not sure" and "we're guessing here" comments.
Lexx
@Triplelexx

Jason Hawks

Feb 04 2015 02:33
do you get the same problems with the fbx converter from another format
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 04 2015 02:33
I like FBX, but, getting blender in line with HiFi's expectation of correct FBX data is going to be a huge process.
yes.
Collada -> FBX via Autodesk's and other's converters lead to differing results. All failing on one or more points.

what is the vec3 'registration' on an entity?
David Rowe
@ctrlaltdavid
Feb 04 2015 03:29
I assume it's the nominated "origin" of the entity, i.e., the point on the entity that is positioned at the entity's specified position; units 0 to 1, so 0.5, 05, 0.5 is the middle of entity; 0.5, 1.0, 0.5 is the top middle of the entity.
Ryan Huffman
@huffman
Feb 04 2015 04:13
Yes, it is the origin.

what's the dependency that enables the chat menu? I see it in the pre-built binary but not in the code I've built (which contains none of the optional libraries)

So I managed to get a release build working with some assistance, but I have problems doing much so far. Do I need a login? I've tried entering a couple of domains and I seem to be having connection issues
Should I be trying to build as Debug or would RelWithDebInfo be a more popular choice?
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 19:37
tried my own server but I get the same issue with (NOT CONNECTED) appearing in the window title a lot.
Lexx
@Triplelexx

locally I seem to be having problems with assignment

Dear Apple, please take your lack of GL compatibility profiles and sit in the corner for a while to think about what you did.

Feb 04 2015 20:24
Hiya @Triplelexx - I am still so proud of you and how you got that taken care of
I can help you get an assignment client/domain server running though, you have to use the command line to run them, I will be able to help you with that more when I am back
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 20:51
sure thing, thanks, I tried running the server and some assignment clients but I have connection issues still
I'm playing around with Faceshift for now
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 04 2015 20:52
well you have to go to it via your local ip if its hosted internally right now, and since you do not have your alpha account it will say not connected for now
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 20:53
yes I was on localhost
it just keeps dropping in and out
and I get errors with the assignment clients
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 04 2015 20:56
hrm, well I can help you debug those too from the log, one thing that helps is moving the domain-server.exe, assignment-client.exe and the resources folder (from your domain-server compile directory) to a single directory so everything is in the same folder, not sure if that is your problem but it is a start
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 20:58
what about the interface.exe?
that should have it's own folder and resources dir, but just share the server ones?
hmm, that's what I did anyway
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 04 2015 21:01
interface is completely seperate
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 04 2015 21:02
seems like this would probably be better to do use Stack Manager anyway
*using
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 04 2015 21:02
the stack (ds/ac) to run your own domain work separate, and yeah it is, but that is also either controlled via protected login or compile yourself from the repo for that
its a whole different ballgame, in a way
