I'm trying to edit a text node, but when I click or right click on it the properties doesn't come up.

@jherico You probably need to turn it on. It's the top button on the right side
The behavior changed yesterday

hmm, every time I start Windows 1880 build it crashes now, could be because I was trying to remotely load a body. Where can I find logs?
that was the last thing I was doing, loading a body file from a remote server
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 20:10
a bad body can muck it up on load to crash yes, and I am not on windows to get the log directory but I could say try c:\users\yourname\application support\high fidelity etc etc or just search for “hifi-log"
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 20:11
probably, yes. If so you need to delete your preferences from \Users_yourname\appdata\roaming\High Fidelity\Inteface.ini
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 20:11
thats the start of the log names, but you also need to reset your settings
yep
that
thanks @OmegaHeron
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 20:12
logs live in ....appdata\local\High Fidelity\Interface\logs

@Triplelexx
Feb 05 2015 20:13
ok pref change will probably fix it
cool, that fixed it

Feb 05 2015 20:26
yeah, trying to figure out how to load stuff remotely rather than upload, see the model bit in the UI just not sure about skeletons, it didn't seem to like that try much. :)
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 20:27
well you can load a file from a web server (like s3, hosting services, github.io) or upload it via Upload Entity Models
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 05 2015 20:28
yup, I should get it figured out. I have a complete faceshifted model to use for myself now :smile:
mapping worked out pretty well

Hey. Anyone know how I open the text chat in the latest version of HIFI from GIT? I compiled with default cmake settings and loaded the default scripts.
Grayson Stebbins
@problem
Feb 05 2015 21:31
do you have QXMPP installed @MirceaKitsune ?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 21:31
hiya @MirceaKitsune and hiya @problem
I was helping you on the forums right @MirceaKitsune (Coal) right?
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 21:32
Ah... I didn't have the devel package. I'll recompile with it
Of course as long as this was fixed https://worklist.net/20217
Anyone else had crashes when compiling with qxmpp in the recent past?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 21:33
if you need qxmpp I would be more than happy to help you get that compiled and setup
and I don’t with my test, but I dont use it full time @MirceaKitsune
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 21:35
I just had hifi crashing when compiling with qxmmp, for odd reasons. So yeah
Will see if it does it again, many changes in GIT since then
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 21:41
make absolutely sure you qxmpp is linked against QT5 - it will crash if it was built against 4 though it will compile.
some time ago I helped someone get openSUSE configured - we had to checkout QXMPP and compile from source - since he had QT4 and QT5 you had to move into QXMPP source dir run qtchoser -qt=5 -run-tool=qmake
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 21:43
I no longer have the qt4 development packages, since it was making hifi not compile at all
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 21:43
then make - sudo make install.
if you dowloaded qxmpp as a binary package it (was) linked to QT4 on OpenSuse for the version he had.
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 21:45
I have it installed from official repositories
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 21:45
then you need to check if it's built against QT4 or QT5.
that should show up in the packages dependencies
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 21:59
Not sure how to check that from YaST
Yeah, still crashes. I can only imagine it might be related to that
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:02
what version of OpenSUSE?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:03
13.2, I just gave them instructions on how to build it from scratch
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:05
It's best to learn how to resolve these kind of things when living on cutting edge vs cookbooks. It's great having howtos and so forth, but, as fast as this can all change it's great to learn some skills for self-help ;)
so - one way is
search engine suse 13.2 qxmpp
you find
your way to www.rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/opensuse/factory/x86_64/libqxmpp0-0.8.2-1.1.x86_64.html
where it shows it requires QT4 - so it's linked against QT4
knowledge = power and not having to wait for help.
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:07
I'll try again when openSUSE included the QT5 based one... likely in 13.3.
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:08
with the use of such cutting edge foundations here - it's likely to be an uphill battle with trying to do this all from packages on Linux for some time to come.
and - it also shows the gargantuan task of coming up with pre-compiled binaries for easy mode installs on Linux. Probably why there aren't any.
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:10
Yeah, it's hard to be constrained to compile on your own on Linux all the time
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:11
it becomes easy if you setup a basis for it - but that requires willingness to use source builds for deps where packaged versions don't exist or aren't properly configured.
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:14
BTW: I heard that Hifi now has Bullet support at last. Any worlds where I can test this and see some physics in action?
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:15
several demos are included in the scripts directory
it's in your source tree
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:15
Yes, there are, even the dice script
its in the alpha forums about it
Brad Hefta-Gaub
@ZappoMan
Feb 05 2015 22:15
gun.js is also fun for physics
you can create some targets and shoot at them
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:15
yes, gun haha
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:16
Cool, will check it out
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:16
yup - chris was bouncing things offa my domain yesterday
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:16
Awesome, the dice work :)
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:17
will mesh kevlar shirt once I fix blender FBX issues so it will look cool. priorities you know. It's not bullet proof if it doesn't look cool doing it.
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:17
Even more surprisingly, they seem to collide with a mesh! I thought mesh collision support was not in yet.
Since the avatar still goes through walls
Can I make the avatar collide with meshes as well?
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:17
not yet
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:18
ok. One of the features I'm looking forward to the most, the default movement system is very overhand.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:18
Okie well I will leave you two to work, got some things I need to finish writing myself
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:18
Maybe I can write and submit proper js scripts for walking and interface. Hifi is (understandably at this stage) barely user friendly at all.
Joe Large [Omega Heron]
@OmegaHeron
Feb 05 2015 22:19
have you tried walk.js?
that's the "AO"
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:19
I have it enabled, so at least the avatar animates yes
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:27
BTW: Up to this day, I couldn't figure out how to edit my appearance. Still stuck as the white robot with no legs. How do I customize another av?
Anyone know how to do that please?
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:31
Yes @MirceaKitsune - what you do is go into preferences in the Interface
and you will see the body and head boxes there with browse beside the box
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:32
Ahh... why did I miss something so obvious? Think I was reflexively used with a SL type editor :P Thanks
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:33
its ok! If you need anything else just ask
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:33
Thanks :)
I'd like to know how to rotate the camera around the avatar, so I can see it from all positions. I can't seem to move the view independently
Clément Brisset
@Atlante45
Feb 05 2015 22:38
Try the inspect.js script
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:38
well there is two methods, one that makes you move
and one that moves around you
Clément Brisset
@Atlante45
Feb 05 2015 22:39
You can also enter mirror mode (H) and rotate with the arrows.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:39
you can try hitting “h” then zooming out
yeah, that
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:39
Thanks, that works
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 05 2015 22:44
I can't seem to get an fst to load remotely without crashing the client
models are fine
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:44
Will the head and body always be separate properties? It might somewhat reduce flexibility to have them separate
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 05 2015 22:44
played with all the paths in the files
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:44
you have to make sure it loads fine from the hifi servers first, and yeah, well if you pm me the link I can check it for you
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 05 2015 22:44
it did
it loaded fine on hifi and as a model
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:51
Hmm. It appears that sometimes, if I select a mesh for body, it automatically has the head as well. What is the point of the head model i wonder, and it being separate
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:51
some are both
like my nibler
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:51
Nice
The combinations this allowed me to create could be classified as crimes against nature :D
(using heads with bodies not meant for them)
Any easier way to preview the existing avatars? Like a web page? The menu simply lists the model names, so there's a lot to try out. It's understandable if there's none of course, previews are far from a primary feature.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
Feb 05 2015 22:56
lol yeah it does some odd styff, as for right now, you can view the raw files but not like a picture preview, because people can upload them
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 22:57
Raw files is fine too. How do I do that in the form of a quicker preview?
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 23:08
Like is there a model viewer menu?
Lexx
@Triplelexx
Feb 05 2015 23:19
just hit and miss selection at the moment, you have to try anything people have shared, they may well crash your client, I know some of mine will. ;)
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 23:24
Mine crashed several times just now, sure :P
Mircea Kitsune
@MirceaKitsune
Feb 05 2015 23:39
Nice
I wonder if there's a tutorial on how to rig and export your own via Blender. Also what license (and copyright limits) a model must obey so it can be uploaded.
Jason Hawks
@nbq
