hey guys! I was just invited into the alpha. I had tried building the hifi software previously but the BUILD.md is really confusing. Why isn't there a step-by-step guide? Nothing in that file made any sense to me, it doesn't really tell you exactly what you need to do.
Why is there so much stuff you have to setup / install yourself? Is there a reason there can't be just an executable?
feel kind of silly lol, I'm usually good at figuring this type of stuff out, but the BUILD.md file is just very vague, and I have no prior experience with cmake

@OmegaHeron, I have a fix that I think works for that intermittent crash on Windows during login: #4544

@AndrewMeadows, thanks! I'll try PR build once it's up and advise.

@AndrewMeadows - no crash on start or end but something is otherwise really strange. Trying to pick right words to describe.
maybe you're seeing it too... not sure how to describe this other than movement isn't working and it's not placing my view where it should be. In Heron I end up at the landing point then "vector off" up and to right of - if I move to jungle I rez in outside domain bounds increasing until I'm at 72528944.0,72542192.0,72528944.0

but the good news is - I don't seem to crash starting/ending : )

@AndrewMeadows - so far, so good with release build based on closing of #4544 pull. Thanks.
@AndreMeadows - one oddity though - before I could "jump" over an entity and would rise/drop down. Now if I use page up (or e) I rise and don't drop over same spot.

Windows build 2194 seems to be working OK for me: no crashes at start-up any more.

that's really different on physics over entities now (I used a hackish way to give one building physics by placing transparent entity boxes to frame it since the obj I've generated with vhacd seem to do nothing).... before it walked generally well. Jump and you'd fall, there was no acceleration while walking over a physics enabled area. Now moving up you don't return to "floor" and acceleration as seen over a no physics area seems to be back. Once speed comes up it's like it can't keep up with the agent's speed and gets a bit choppy.

Rumor has it that the avatar now can't move, or maybe crashes when logging into a place that has no objects. I'm interested in news/info on how to reproduce this.

I saw that on the PR build and some other oddities, but, on my self-compile release with debug it's fine - other than changes in physics I mentioned above.

@OmegaHeron, is this in your Heron domain or a private one?

It's on my lan where I'm seeing physics changed from before - you might be able to get to it - Jungle
the building is wrapped in entities for physics - it's a total hack but worked well before
Heron is still a no physics area
Jungle is open now - forgot I had access controls on if that was @AndrewMeadows trying to connect

huh... I'm getting choppy motion just flying through the air now. Something is messed up.

well - I kinda thought so too but was trying to find a more eloquent way of phrasing it

I'm trying to understand why the movement acceleration is back in a physics enable area.... it seemed perfect when it didn't accelerate - now I have to start/stop/repeat to keep speed under control lest I bounce off walls.

@AndrewMeadows - yup - that fixes it. It's acting exactly as before in my physics enabled space.

I gotta say the PR builds have all been weird today. On a previous it would sent me to like 75k,75k,75k
on another it was all screwy with agent split into bits

okay this is starting to look interesting I may be interested in getting a copy of the server software and the client software saying that this does not operate on a standard view or like OpenSim our 2nd life but I need a username login in order to go to the download area is it seems so how about one of you kids and being able to provide me with sufficient information and how to retrieve this

I just caught another crash that's rare (Windows 7). I've caught it twice now in about the same spot. When panning about the scene you get a freeze then crash. Both times caught it was in ModelEntityItem::readEntitySubclassDataFromBuffer

All programs have it until people willing to spend hours on top of hours trying to catch the rare ones do so and then find ways to fix.
