[Maarten van der Veen, HOTOSM] We have had requests for Beira city to do a damage assessment. This should ideally be 10cm resolution (so no satellite), but we can try 30-50cm

[Paul Knight, HOTOSM] Hi @amckenna, hope you are doing well!
The INGC (National Disaster Management Authority of Mozambique), IFRC, UNDAC, MSF, DFID, Save the Children, and MapAction, have been flying over the affected area in the past couple of weeks.
You can see the "grid" system that they are using here: https://maps.mapaction.org/event/moz-idai-2019
They are classifying the grid area by severity and population estimate which have led to the tasking in the HOT tasking manager. Additional information from IFRC ground teams (those in the helicopter/plane) as well as operational priorities also lead to the prioritisation in the tasking manager.
All tasks are using pre-event imagery.

@sameroom-bot
[Andrew McKenna, HOTOSM] thx @brc.paul.knight -- just to clarify -- the grid system is for prioritization for TM projects that are using pre event imagery? would any of this relate to post-event imagery collection needs?

[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] Hi, This morning I wanted to continue mapping with The DigtalGlobe Vivid Imagery. It Disapeared form my Imagery list ! What is going on ?
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Nate Smith, HOTOSM] @frans.schutz is this in JOSM or iD? I know that there has been some rebranding happening at Digital Globe, mainly renaming Digital Globe to Maxar, its parent company — osmlab/editor-layer-index@c9e4239
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] This is in JOSM. A bit weird apparently, This image popped up last week , without selecting it, in JOSM. And now it's gone on the same way
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Nate Smith, HOTOSM] @frans.schutz yeah I suspect it changed and JOSM hasn’t updated the name change.
[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] Ok, Maxar Premium and Standard image (both beta) are availabe under image providers
[Nate Smith, HOTOSM] Ok great. yeah those are the new names of the same layers.
[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] I don't know if there need to be an approval form HOT to use it, otherwise is should be published under the HOT organisation and mappers/validators. Or do we need to wait until the beta status changes
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Nate Smith, HOTOSM] My assumption is that this is just a name change. I haven’t heard anything new about needing new permissions to use it since this is still being made available as a layer within OSM editors.
[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] Fine, I will inform Russel and Ralph about this
[Nate Smith, HOTOSM] thanks for doing that
[Nate Smith, HOTOSM] and thanks for flagging this!

@r_aytoun @russell.deffner Hi.please take a look to this story
http://blog.maxar.com/open-data-program/2019/open-data-response-to-cyclone-kenneth
When I understand it well, there are most recent images available from Maxar. At project 5970 and similar projects in the area Bing is mentioned as Imagery to be used. These images dates from 5/30/2013 till 10/21/2016
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Ralph Aytoun, HOTOSM] Does that non-commercial licence allows us to create derivative work that can be used for commercial purposes to make it compatible with the OSM licence?
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Jarmo Kivekäs, HOTOSM] Does anyone here know if the license of e.g Landsat of Sentinel imagery is compatible with OSM? The Manam Island and Mount Ulawun eruptions just made me think that it might sometimes be useful to e.g map areas damaged by pyroclastic flow after an eruption. Landsat and Sentinel imagery would be straight forward to obtain after an event, and pyroclastic flows are large enough features that they could be mapped from the lower resolution imagery of those satellites. (thinking face emoji) :satellite: :world_map:

[Jarmo Kivekäs, HOTOSM] Especially with small buildings like these, it's quite common that builigs have been dismantled and others have been built in their place between the times the images were captured.
[Jarmo Kivekäs, HOTOSM] Unfortunate to see that it's mapped from Bing, since Maxar P is the preferred imagery for #6296, and seems more recent in this case as well...
[Russell Deffner, HOTOSM] Would agree with Jarmo, also you can tell the MAXAR is more recent with the land clearing going on, so some new, some dismantled or moved, built onto, etc.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Jarmo Kivekäs, HOTOSM] Forest that has been cleared into new farmland and the way nearby stream/reiver banks have eroded are usually fairly reliable ways to tell which imagery is newer in my experience. Sometimes in these cases only looking at the buildings might not help much help, if there is an equal amount of new and dismantled buildings.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Jarmo Kivekäs, HOTOSM] Is there test/staging version of TM where you can mess around with the project admin interface?
[Jarmo Kivekäs, HOTOSM] We were supposed to set Maxar P as the default imagery in 6296, but didn't get around to doing figuring out how. The result is that iD loaded Bing imagery by default, which is almost certainly the reason this task (and probably many other tasks) was mapped from Bing instead of Maxar P.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Russell Deffner, HOTOSM] I can change it here shortly

@sameroom-bot
[Will Bennett, HOTOSM] For Idai projects, specifically 5969, is Bing still the preferred layer? Some buildings were validated but aligned to Maxar from 3 years ago. I tried to load the capture date layer on https://discover.digitalglobe.com but it won't load for me.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Greg Rose, HOTOSM] The Maxar imagery is much newer - for the Idai stuff I've been validating, I'm generally aligning to Bing, and adding bldgs from Maxar where there's a big difference (which unfortunately is quite often)
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] Hi. Im working on project 5650 and noticed a huge difference in quantity of buildings found on the ESRI imagery and the Maxar imagery
See this location
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/-3.358532/37.369209
Where can i find the capture dates of these imageries to find out which is the most recent ?
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] @smit1678 Hi Nate, I ( and many other validators i guess) wonder if there is a method to get the capture dates of an imagery
Bing shows capture dates when you zoom in and look to the tile info. It's rough, but better than nothing. ESRI and MAXAR shows nothing. On the Maxar site I can find capture dates of a particular location or area. But I am not sure if these images are the same as the ones we use. btw. any idaea how to get those images in JOSM for comparison reasons ?
On this location the ESRI image is more recent than MAXAR
-3.3468721 37.33681745
I hope you can help me further
Best regards
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Cristiano Giovando, HOTOSM] Hi @Frans - unfortunately only Bing provides that metadata about capture date - as far as I know, none of the other imagery layers do.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Ralph Aytoun, HOTOSM] The old DigitalGlobe imagery allowed us to see the compilation date (not the capture date) of the orthocorrected tile on a separate layer. Can MAXAR at least give us this function again with the MAXAR imagery?
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Will Bennett, HOTOSM] I believe the Maxar team is working on delivering vintage data with the layer. Likely not priority for them but I have it from someone in OSMUS Slack that they want support
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Matthew Gibb, HOTOSM] Maxar IS planning on releasing a vintage layer similar to the ones that existed for the DG services. It's something that team wants to get out, just working on the best method for delivery
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Tom Gertin, HOTOSM] Mapgive can provide some imagery services if there are any urgent tasks that are not well covered by esri or other layers. We are thin staffed right now, so it might take a week or less to produce. Also it would help to have imagery requests prioritized.

[feye, HOTOSM] hello, is there a way to identify the imagery capture date from Maxar in JOSM?
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot

[Martien van de Griendt, HOTOSM] Hi, can some one shed some light on this? Thanks in advance
https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/6733
Using Esri World imagery i notice that the quality in ID editor is better than in Josm (see images, IDversion left, Josm version right, zoom 20m): Josm Esri is more pixelated and shows less details. I get the impression it is somehow not the same imagery.
Note: i tried to optimize the image quality in Josm as much as possible with the layer Colorfulness etc settings.

Is there a way to get the ID version of Esri World in Josm?

@sameroom-bot
[feye, HOTOSM] hi! i'm trying to add a TMS layer from Maxar (https://services.digitalglobe.com/earthservice/tmsaccess/tms/1.0.0/DigitalGlobe:ImageryTileService@EPSG:3857@jpg/%7Bzoom%7D/%7Bx%7D/%7B-y%7D.jpg?connectId=0fa5566b-3797-48cb-8665-df9ebc21be72) on QGIS but apparently, it

[MarcelBag, HOTOSM] hello; any idea on how to convert geotiff imagery to mbtiles ?

@sameroom-bot
[Philipp Ulbrich, HOTOSM] Hi, we found free high res imagery in TIFF format for a favela in Rio we are mapping for the COVID-19 response. I understand that for it to be loaded onto the TM it would need to be located on a tile server. Would anyone know by any chance (or know someone who might know) if there is a server that could host that imagery for the duration the project is being mapped? Thanks!

[Frans Schutz, HOTOSM] Hi Channel
Why is Mapbox still available as Imagery. In the occasions I always see a very unclear, not workable imagery. Sometimes we need to check available images if the standard images, Maxar, Bing, Esri show clouds Mapbox is often not clouded, but you cannot map from that.
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Greg Rose, HOTOSM] Appears to be an outage with MAXAR imagery. Can anyone else confirm?

@r_aytoun Hi Ralph.
A question. I am validating on project 9677, a Red Cross project where Maxar Premium is the Imagery to be used.
I came across rather much tasks which has been mapped from the Bing imagery, with dramatic results near the cost and alongside the river. (River beds changes from location between the image taken dates)
I assume that the (new) iDmappers hardly know that they have to look to the active Imagery if that is the correct one, and just start mapping.
Other projects use a specific imagery which loads automatically with the task. How does this work? I would suggest this method to the project team pf 9677 to avoid wrong and incomplete mappings from Bing. Saves a lot of time for validating.
Best regards

@sameroom-bot
[Russell Deffner, HOTOSM] @Channel - we have an active need for Imagery for the Aegean sea earthquake, the areas of the projects (first two found here: https://tasks.hotosm.org/explore?text=Izmir ) are difficult to digitize with the default imagery available. Please let myself, @canunen or #disaster-mapping channel know if you can provide up-to-date and/or clear, high resolution imagery for this disaster response. Thank you!
Sameroom
@sameroom-bot
[Russell Deffner, HOTOSM] Thanks to MAXAR for quickly putting out imagery for Eta/Iota impact area in Central America. Not to stop anyone, but I looked at the previews and between clouds and the imagery dates for MAXAR premium being fairly recent, I don't think there's much urgency to process and upload these scenes. Happy to be wrong if someone else wants to review but for now we'll just stick with defaults for basemap projects.
