@urosn
how to start abandon
hrj
@hrj
@urosn which OS do you use? There's a .bat file for Windows and a .sh file for *nix included in the distribution, that can be used as a launcher.

@chidu8
Hi HRJ, is abandon an active project? I would like to contribute. I am quite familiar with Scala and I'm looking to start contributing to OSS immediately.
@hrj
hrj
@hrj
@chidu8 Yes, it is active. I am using it for accounting of two companies.
Contributions are very welcome.
hrj
@hrj
@chidu8 Since you are familiar with Scala, I would suggest looking at this issue: #57
The essence of the idea is to modify the parser to support a more compact notation.
hrj
@hrj
@chidu8 I thought some more about it. It would be better to start off with something simpler.
Issue #64 is a good starting point.
Chidu
@chidu8
Thanks. I'll take up #64
Chidu
@chidu8
@hrj Could you please take a look at my comment:
hrj/abandon#64
Do you get email updates for every comment?
hrj
@hrj
yes, I get email updates for every github comment. we seem to be in different timezones though :)
hrj
@hrj
I am writing a detailed wiki page to answer some of your questions.
Chidu
@chidu8
Cool, thank you
hrj
@hrj
Still adding more details, but it might be enough to get you started.
Chidu
@chidu8
Thanks. Going thro AST
hrj
@hrj
Also, you probably need to play with parser combinators. They are an easy (and powerful) way to parse.
Chidu
@chidu8
Will do. How about the compilation issues?
What command do you use to compile the source code?
I have Scala 2.10 installed, but since you have 2.11.7 in your build.sbt, that version got downloaded and it compiled against the correct version i think. Dunno why i get javafx errors
hrj
@hrj
can you tell me the output of java -version ?
Chidu
@chidu8
java version "1.7.0_71"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_71-b14)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.71-b01, mixed mode)
hrj
@hrj
ah, the gui needs javafx 8. Which means,
you need either the Oracle 8 JRE
or if you are using OpenJDK, then you need to install OpenJFX8
Chidu
@chidu8
ok i will install Java 8
do i need to make it default? or can i keep Java 7 as default, because i'm using java 7 for some other projects
hrj
@hrj
Note that it is only required for the gui. The cli works fine on java 7
So you can skip the gui for now, and continue using java 7.
Chidu
@chidu8
okay, but can i compile only the cli and base>
hrj
@hrj
yes, if you type cli/compile in sbt, it will compile cli and base
Chidu
@chidu8
cool
hrj
@hrj
similarly, to run the cli: cli/run -c examples/simple/accounts.conf
Chidu
@chidu8
it compiled successfully but did not generate a JAR in the target folder. Is this expected?
Oops
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/typesafe/config/ConfigException : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0
when i ran the cli
hrj
@hrj
oh. Looks like one of the libraries is depending on Java 8
so, you need java 8 :eyes:
Chidu
@chidu8
i will install :)
Chidu
@chidu8
it worked, awesome!
compiled and ran the example
i see .class files under target folder, but i don't see a JAR
that's fine, maybe sbt package builds the jar
Chidu
@chidu8
I'm sorry for bugging you :)
hrj
@hrj
the packaging is done with the assembly command. But you needn't worry about that during development.
Chidu
@chidu8
But could you also tell me if my thought process w.r.t SingleTransactions is correct, as commented here:
