Is there anyway to get apktool to just generate a binary version of the AndroidManifest.xml without packaging everything up, or is it solely relying on aapt to do that?
Connor Tumbleson
@iBotPeaches
@sjmh it relies on aapt to binary up the manifest file

@iBotPeaches thanks, that's what I figured. Do you know of any other way/tool of compiling the manifest?
Trying to create an internal service for some of our internal products groups and they want to be able to rename already built/compiled apks so they can install multiple copies of the application on a phone ( without having to rebuild the app )

Hey, I have a problem with multiDex support. Before using apktool I'd had 40k method references, after using apktool more than 64k. So I guess that one classes.dex file should be splitted in two. But instead apktool returnes

Hey, does anyone experience issue after decompile and recompile an apk file and the app won't start? I'm usind the latest beta of apktool. Also without changing anything.

is it possible to run apktool in android through dalvikvm ? actually i tested it and almost all things were ok but androidmanifest.xml was not decompiled
can anyone drop some light :)

@iBotPeaches is there a way to turn off debugging when rebuilding an apk that has it turned off? All the posts I've seen have been about turning it ON when building with apk.
Wasn't sure if there was an apktool.yml option for it or if I just need to mess with the manifest manually

@Hax4us
@iBotPeaches I decompiled an app by apktool d -f -r --force-manifest app.apk -o app and then again recompiled using apktool b -a $(which aapt) app -o app2.apk and finally I unzipped the recompiled app unzip app2.apk and I found that AndroidManifest.xml was not recompiled means it is still in text format
Idk What is happening
And even there was no error while recompiling

hi there! I am having some problems trying to recompile
and apparently it might be because of folders containing spaces, can it be?
Using the latest version btw :)

Hello, I'm trying to debug an app that uses kotliin coroutines. I have decompiled the apk, modified the manifest to make it debuggable, recompiled it, signed it and installed to my device but everytime Dispatchers is called an exception is thrown with "Module with the Main dispatcher is missing. Add dependency providing the Main dispatcher, e.g. 'kotlinx-coroutines-android'"
has anyone else had a similar problem?

Has anyone tried using apktool with split-apks (installed via android app bundles)? I've rebuilt and re-signed all split apks and tried to install them using "adb install-multiple", but it never completes, reason seems to be something with the native libraries

anyone there?
all I did was rebuild tinder and the app crashes when I launch it on nexus 6P. Logcat shows this error: "java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.tinder/com.tinder.activities.LoginActivity}: android.view.InflateException: Binary XML file line #4: Binary XML file line #4: Error inflating class ImageView"
Rich

still getting runtime error using 2.4.1 snapshot
Rich
@dillrich
well, tinder 10.4.2 can go through the dissasemble, reassemble, etc. using apktool 2.4.1 and successfully runs on phone. weird runtime error after pusing tinder 10.12.0 through apktool

Hey, so I want to add frida (need to circumvent ssl pinning in an app, following this https://koz.io/using-frida-on-android-without-root/ )
But when I've decompiled the app I can't find a lib subfolder so what I tried was to mkdir lib/ and put the frida .so in there, but when I've recompiled the app crashes I assume I don't add the .so correctly)
Worth to note is that I use the -r -f flags because otherwise I can't rebuild it

I've got no idea how to even start debugging this, I tried to use adb logcat and grep for the apk but it doesn't mention what kind of error happens.

Rich
@dillrich
Johan -- why are you trying to manually adding a .so?
Johan Vikström
@jvikstrom
I can do it some other way?
Rich
@dillrich
Johan -- why not just run the app on a rooted machine (use magisk for android)

Hey, hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm adding NfcNci to the system of this device without building the system from source. As such, NfcNci is signed using my own keys and fails the chain of trust. I'm looking for a tool I found not long ago on GitHub that lists sig dependencies. Does anyone know what this tool is called? I've lost the link.
(yes, it's slightly off-topic, but will be relevant later when I'm reverse engineering other system apps like ClockworkLauncher)

Pardon me if I'm kinda dumb. There's this online-based app (as in to actally run the game you need internet) that i used to be able to debug using Chrome inspect while it's running. but after an update where it demands Android 5 to run, it no longer shows in the inspect. Can the apk be modified to allow the app to run while being debugged like previously?
