so if you want to get rid of the arrows and list
you need to explicitly state in the unslider options
                $('.banner').unslider({
                    nav: false,
                    arrows: false
                });
something among those lines @NicoNor
that should do it, I think. Let me know if it doesn't and we can go from there.

I wanted the nav arrows, thats hte problem, they are not showing
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 00:56
ok, that requires a couple of css lines to make the arrows appear as you want them too.

oh

@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 00:57
I can't recall if the arrows on the website are part of the distribution package
let me check
yup, you need some custom css to make the arrows different or appear as you want them too.

@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 00:58
ugh..
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 00:58
the classes are .unslider .unslider-arrow (for next) and .unslider-arrow.prev (for previous)

I'm still a student, so trying to understand all this
when I put nav:false, it made my entire slider squish
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 00:59
if you are only stating nav, you need to remove the comma at the end.
the comma is used to define several values, when there is just one, you don't write it at all.

Yeah, i actually put a ; out of custom
but i knew it was wrong, but yeah, i had done it, so good call lmfao
that worked, awesome.
Can you explain a bit more about the arrows?

.unslider-arrow {
    display: block;
    width: 32px;
    height: 32px;
    top: 50%;
    right: -50px;
    left: auto;
    margin-top: -16px;
    overflow: hidden;
    background: rgba(0, 0, 0, .2) no-repeat 50% 50%;
    background-image: url('data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAkAAAAQCAQAAABuQZ3IAAAAi0lEQVR4AU3OISBEQQBAwS0AACS9NxqQgCZpkiYBVddFvWhAAUABAPQCAGC4g/0vTnrBqCfDIZl70J+kMUBPpEwT4FNXxBxz4F1HxHyr4EVTxBLb4EFNxEon4CJSlVNw9AcV9sC16h8osgke1P1ArgXwouVvdQq86ww/GQefusNf7kBviBlxpT8k+gL/Wox4r1d4MwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==');
    background-size: 7px 11px;
    border-radius: 32px;
    text-indent: -999em;
    opacity: .6;
    transition: opacity .2s;
}

.unslider-arrow:hover {
    opacity: 1;
}

.unslider-arrow.prev {
    left: -50px;
    right: auto;
    -ms-transform: rotate(-180deg);
    transform: rotate(-180deg);
}
that's the code @idiot uses on the unslider site for the arrows, you can probably take several cues from there.
If you want to use the same image, just copy the graphic and link it on the "background-image" part.
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:02
yeah, then i would set it to absolute?
so it doesnt move?
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:03
it shouldn't move, since the arrows are placed outside of the list that slides.
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:03
I wanted them on the right and left on the slide, but i think I might just take the arrows off an set it to auto with dots
seems liek it would look better for the look I want
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:04
sure that works too
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:04
Thank you so much though. They should update the tutorial to explain a lot of things that seem to be missing on getting everything how they show "default"
For us new coders to be able to understand it more. I looked at the methods and options, but it never specified a lot of things that are missing to REALLY get it to work
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:06
yeah, the docs are pretty vague if you aren't familiar with the concepts and all.
No problem man, if I can I'll always help.
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:06
Where can I find the arrows stuff u showed me? So i can use it for future ref
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:07
you can copy it from above, or you can just view the unslider.com css file
that has all the code
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:07
okay cool, thought all this worked differently. Again, thank you so much, you saved me :P
Could I go ahead and ask something else? Is the way im doing my parallax effect with css okay?
trying to make it like all the newer websites, that you just scroll down.
Dunno if I can pm you or something, since its unrelated to Unslider
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:09
I've never liked the parallax effect because it's way too much eye candy.
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:09
I'm not talking about actual animations on scrolling effects
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:09
Also, in your .page class, you're using "text-indent: -9999px"
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:09
yeah im taking that off hahaha
was testing some things, just like all the redundant margin: 0
and padding
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:09
don't do it like that, cause it makes the browser draw a -99999px box
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:10
oh
lmfao
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:10
you can do it with:
.class {
  text-indent: 100%;
  overflow: hidden;
  white-space: nowrap;
}
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:11
is the vh usage okay?
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:11
sure
that depends on what you want to achieve
but it looks fine
just be aware of the support the vh unit has: http://caniuse.com/#search=vh
it might give you trouble on some mobile browsers (Opera Mini) and IE8 doesn't support it.
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:12
It is for a university project. I'm just trying to learn all this to be ahead of the curve, the actual assignment was too simple for my taste
I always try and learn a lot more and do a lot more
Is tehre a way I can get this effect with more compatability and none jquery?
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:13
that's really good. There's a lot of good stuff on the internet to learn, if you want to learn some good CSS/HTML/JS semantics and all you can check out http://www.codeguide.co
it's a good reference
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:13
awesome
i am a semantic junkie
hate divs haha
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:15
divs are dope haha
they're still one of the biggest resources when building a layout
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:15
well yeah, other than styling though
thats to where i try and limit it, to style. other than that there really is not much use, unless you are actually div-iding something
May i ask why you didn't center your webpage?
wait, ur from Venezuela? hablas espa~ol? :P
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:17
si
eh, porque no era el estilo que estaba buscando
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:17
oki
I ask a lot of dumb questions just in case
:P
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:18
centrar el contenido me obliga a tener como un fixed width para empezar
y ajustarlo a los media queries
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:18
there we go
thats the answer
i wanted
haha
Raul Rincon
@raulfunkie
Jun 24 2016 01:18
ya si lo tengo alineado a la izquierda o derecha, ya tengo mas libertad
NicoNor
@NicoNor
Jun 24 2016 01:18
yay more knowledge for me
Can i always contact you here? I mean, i don't plan on spamming you with beginner questions. Just in case
