@/all anybody tested moving a bunch of products from one shop to another yet?
I dont have any big stores to test with....
I was able to save some requests, so its bot as bad as I predicted
I create the product and all variants with one request
so its basically
  • 1 request to create product and variants
  • 1 request for each image
  • 1 request for each metafield

per my last example

So if you have a product with 3 product images, 3 variants, and 3 metafields.
thats a 5 second upload...for that one product...

its actually only 7 requests, 3.5 seconds

The download should be faster than the upload...
thanks @hughker

I think 100, should give a good idea.

I was just curious...
I'm more about making sure it works properly
But any info you can give would be great
One of the things I've found annoying when developing shopify apps, is sometimes I need a large library of "test" products.
for checking performance or whatever...
When I was developing Search Reactor it was hard to be sure the performance was good enough

@internalfx — totally, i think I remember someone having a test library of products, I’ll see if i can dig it up quickly for you

I did a search back then....but maybe something has finally been made....
I guess it could be done, now that we have a file based export format!

You should be able to combine libraries of products by just merging the folders...FYI
hopefully one of those will be helpful too

maybe the “shopify-sample-data” is better since you can tell it how many you want or whatnot?

So did it ever finish uploading?

@internalfx — ahh sorry, been trying to get my backup machine setup as my main machine is dying, let me do it again and I’ll let you know.

@internalfx — uploading just fine, i have the existing products already in the dev store, so it was creating them again, but it was uploading them just fine

cool, yeah, it will create a product for every one it uploads....

perfect, then that makes perfect sense — when I use it next, I’ll just wipe the stores existing product then upload them :+1:

basically...yeah
thats how its meant to work....or if you are transferring to a new store..
