the notebook metadata editor has a codemirror instance, but there's no easy way to change the theme. I was going to introduce a cm_default variable, like code cells have, so that CodeMirror settings can be customized. Any thoughts on this?
jdfreder @jdfreder is catching up on a lot of msgs

@jdfreder @takluyver @minrk @damianavila @rgbkrk @jhamrick @Carreau there are some pull requests requiring decisions - can we have a short 10 am Google+ today to go over those?
Damian Avila
@damianavila

I can not do it today... @ellisonbg, but I will be available all the other days on the week...
BTW, is there any way to executed some script when the notebook server starts up? Because the files inside the startup folder is only executed when I start a kernel (open an specific ipynb) @takluyver @minrk

Will there be a possibility to install ipython and run notebooks on a FirefoxOS mobile device.
Thomas Kluyver
@takluyver
Sep 15 2014 16:03
@ttxtea I don't think we have any specific plans in that direction, but if someone does the work, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't happen.
@ellisonbg yep, I'll be there
@damianavila You could do it from the ipython_notebook_config.py config file - that's the only thing that comes to mind.

he'll host the hangout
the format we decided on last time is to keep going for half an hour, and just see how many issues we get through in that time
going from oldest to newest with the 'needs decision' tag

is there a way to determine which traits in a HasTraits class are defined in the current class, and which are inherited? I'm looking into having sphinx generate docs for widgets, but there isn't a lot of infrastructure for that.

Hum, Khan academy made an alternative to mathjax.
ycombinator discussion
not yet fully up to mathjax level, but they don't target old browsers.

nice
worth investigating, I guess

I think @ellisonbg would have a strong opinion on this.
we should have a project watchlist.
Kyle Kelley
@rgbkrk
Sep 15 2014 19:35
Oooooh now that is slick
way faster than mathjax
they should post timings on the page

Tell me that we can finally vendorize this instead of pulling from a CDN
Vendorize for all instead of leaving the option

Sep 15 2014 19:38
does it support more of LaTeX than MathJax
Kyle Kelley
@rgbkrk
Sep 15 2014 19:42
you can pre-render expressions using Node.js and send them as plain HTML
The inner hipster in me saw that, had to post.
One could just do LaTeX server side. ;)
Jonathan Frederic
@jdfreder
Sep 15 2014 19:44
I wonder if this means poor matjax will die
Kyle Kelley
@rgbkrk
Sep 15 2014 19:44
MathJax still works in IE
I don't think it will die
Jonathan Frederic
@jdfreder
Sep 15 2014 19:44
ahhh
Kyle Kelley
@rgbkrk
Sep 15 2014 19:45
But since we only support (officially) Firefox, Chrome, and Safari...
This seems reasonable
However, I'm not the one to actually implement KaTeX for us (by priority and work commitments)

Thomas Kluyver

Sep 15 2014 19:45
does Katex work on even recent versions of IE? I have seen people using the notebook in IE10
Kyle Kelley
@rgbkrk
Sep 15 2014 19:45
Whoops
@jdfreder I meant Safari!
Bad me
Jonathan Frederic
@jdfreder
Sep 15 2014 19:47
Ahh still, our support is more like Firefox == Chrome > Safari, right?
Sylvain Corlay
@SylvainCorlay
Sep 15 2014 19:57
Or the other way round - once you have conquered the world. The browsers that support ipython.
Jonathan Frederic
