is there a way to change the default configuration options for a system (not a user). say c.NotebookApp.port = 9999

@maartenbreddels add that line in /etc/jupyter/jupyter_notebook_config.py

ok, do you happen to know the place for ipython notebook 2.x?
I'm writing a security patch , and our version goes back to that...
with grep i find for instance: IPython/config/profile/cluster/ipython_config.py:1:c = get_config()
but i guess that is only loaded in some special case

I don't believe 2.x supports system-wide config of any kind, but for 3.x it will be /etc/ipython/ipython_notebook_config.py.

hmm ok, well appending 'NotebookApp.password_required.default_value = True' to IPython/html/notebookapp.py does the job
thx

@minrk I wanted to write the migration doc for traitlets this afternoon. What do you think is the best place for it? A wiki? The documentation itself?
This would impact the format I should use for this (rst / md)

@minrk... I have people trying to load js files from a static folder next to a notebook... I can see the redirection from notebook/static to files/static and the css is loaded and read by the notebook but not the JS (they are using IPython.display HTML to show the html containing script tag loading the js). I can see the JS in localhost:8889/files/static/blabla.js, but the jsconsole warn about not being "read" (Reference errors). Could be this behavior because of the sanitization by caja?

@SylvainCorlay probably sphinx.
(When writing new rst docs, I often write them as markdown and then pandoc --to rst)
@damianavila shouldn't be, because HTML published as a result of direct execution (as opposed to notebook loading) should always be trusted and not sanitized, but I'm not sure.

@minrk, OK, I will ask people to open an issue so we can investigate further...
