These are chat archives for janek26/secretgamedev
And yes, the forum seems to be down at the moment. Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day, after all. Problems can always arise during the early days of game development.
At least we still have this chat group.
Everyone, I've been doing some thinking about the lost forum, and how to replace it.
Last year, I was working with a team that used "Evernote".
This program is, simply-put, like a wiki, except that you don't need an extra server for it. For once, cloud-computing does its job right :P
You can create notes in this program (their version of documents) which allows not only for text and some good formatting tools, but also for importing images and the like.
Everyone can edit the documents, and if we use a system like "each user has its own text color", we can even leave some notes inside these documents without turning the layout into a complete mess.
It is available on all mayor computer systems via an program you can install, as well as a browser app. It even supports mobile!
Best of all, it has a chat function. I think this Gitter chat works as well, but just in case we want to switch over to Evernote completely, we have that option as well.
(Alternatively, we can create a "chat document" where everyone is writing down their stuff one after another – again, with different text colors. This is almost like a real forum topic).
Bottom line, this is a good alternative to having a forum on a free website. Lots of editing flexibility, and no ads even with the basic (aka free) version.
If you want to give it a try, register an account at https://evernote.com and give me your e-mail used with your account, so I can share the team folders with you (folders are called "Notebooks" in Evernote).
I suggest that we spend the next week trying out Evernote and getting used to it, and re-create our team introcuction posts, as well as game ideas, in there.
And next weekend, we FINALLY discuss what to do!
Well, I guess today's a day too. I'll give the others time to read all this new stuff, and try to figure out the Evernote stuff in the coming days.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
(and remember, register on Evernote.com and give me your e-mail so I can add you)
Hey, if Janek shows up again, together with the forum, all the better.
But just in case he's not coming back - or he takes a long time to return - then the chances are high that the rest of the team will lose all their motivation because of the lack of communication.
This new forum initiative is done to keep everyone active. That, and I was curious whether Evernote is a better forum/document editing software and more fitting for our needs.
