Hey john, so after having given all the matplotlib classes a passing glance, I've noticed that many of them are essentially containers for converters or formatters (good examples of this being the class TextToPath and FontProperties in textpath.py and font_manager.py). On my view these converters/formatters could all be mapped into unique TraitTypes, however the extent to which things should be changed seems difficult to get a grasp on.
Deciding to restructure everything would likely be quite significant since there's about one class in every top level file (i.e. matplotlib.module) that could be turned into a series of TraitTypes and many more that would need to be changed in order to accommodate that.
