I don't know who in their right mind would think that Sagas were a good fit to solve that problem
"state" is a very stubborn thing. You can't just arbitrarily manipulate it

i think they caught-on simply because they're very flexible. and people like using state-of-the-art javascript (in this case, async/await)
i don't like using js whose specs are not finalized, though, so i don't touch them, nor does the team i work on.

btw i know you were looking into PRPL– here's that server-push stuff i was working on: https://github.com/devinivy/underdog
it's at v1 now– i will hopefully get a PRPL example up using underdog before long .
