    I need a volunteer to run next week's UX SIG meeting (Wednesday at 16:00 UTC). I won't be available.

    Request for volunteer has also been posted to https://groups.google.com/g/jenkinsci-ux/c/bqLPocQJt3Y/m/iwxMCKdOHgAJ . Person running the meeting needs access to the Jenkins Zoom account.

    I filed https://issues.jenkins.io/browse/JENKINS-68001 the other day after the recent release added a ton of padding to the project overview. I'm all for spacing things properly to make it easy to read and not slip a column or row when looking or clicking things, but it's a bit excessive, especially since that is already using the compact overview version of the project list. It makes more sense to add alternating row colors or stronger borders than whitespace around every cell.

    your example is a non standard setup with lots of extra columns added by a plugin which is why it hasn't been noticed before, interesting though, thanks for the report

    @Tampa
    Think the columns are part of the standard dashboard view plugin, I just added them all creating a custom dashboard view as default view. I install simple theme at some point to change some css already to remove padding and margin from the test result table and other widgets further down the page. .bigtable td, .bigtable th {
    padding: 0.0rem 0.0rem; for example. Perhaps just an option to go between normal and "compact views" would suffice in this case

    UI considered part of UX or just general jenkinsci/jenkins chatter?
    Tim Jacomb
    @timja
    ui is part of ux yes

    I opted for a Solarized Dark theme and the spinner GIF while watching the console log of a build is black with a white background. looks rough on a blueish background

    oof, exploring static analysis warnings on a dark style is tough... they're listing file linenumbers with a dark font

    Where? In the source code view? You can change the theme of the source code view to the dark theme.

    Global build stats plugin. Last proper SCM activity was almost 4 1/2 years ago, I could file a PR but it's unlikely someone would merge it any time soon, I guess.

    Oh. Missed replies I think.
    I was watching the pipeline job console and it had the spinner at the bottom of the screen.

    @NotMyFault if this broke because of unused icons cleanup, that seems entirely unnecessary, maintained or not
    Alexander Brandes
    @NotMyFault
    This one broke, because it relies on the icon path instead of using the icon api to place the icon, I'll look forward to file a PR in a bit.
    Based on a quick look, this was not subject to the minor unused icon cleanup.

    @daniel-beck
    ok. Still not a great experience, but at least it seems defensible as that was a more important change AFAIUI

    re the demo today @janfaracik Perhaps you could look into considering the 'new view' and 'new agent' dialogs when redesigning the 'new item/job' dialog? They diverged in 2.0 and that's something I think was a mistake. They all have the same basic structure (select name and either type or copy source), except only items/jobs has categories grouping types. Might be good idea to make them consistent? Unsure though, perhaps groups make them too different.

    @timja Re https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/pull/5897#issuecomment-1072129042 it would be nice if there also were some guidance when to use which. We are very weak when it comes to UI standards, and we can probably improve a lot with some basic guidance :)

    thanks for feedback,
    I'll push this as something to iterate on:
    trying to add an acceptable baseline for each component
    and then see what needs beefing up
    (and fixing breakages all over the place)
    Alexander Brandes
    @NotMyFault
    The overhaul branch looks awesome and much more intuitive to work with rather than the plain jelly tag reference, because it does now ship up to date examples of the latest additions and how they render in Jenkins.
    Great work here

    I was wondering if we wanted a hosted Jenkins instance for the design library until ci.jenkins.io can have it installed? (ci.jenkins.io uses LTS so would be quite awhile)

    I think it'd be a lot better if we could link mailing list and jenkins.io documentation to an actual instance?

    +1 from me. The next baseline is not yet picked and an instance running a weekly release will indeed be beneficial to preview what's coming up in a next LTS and to play around with things beforehand.
    Mark Waite
    @MarkEWaite
    Seems like a good topic for today's meeting of the infra team. I think we might want a long term instance at weekly.ci.jenkins.io specifically so that we're showing others our use of the weekly release. We already use weekly on one of the CI servers behind the VPN. I don't think that it needs to be anything heavyweight. It definitely does not need to run all the jobs that are defined for ci.jenkins.io

    @zbynek
    @janfaracik I just saw you are working on improving the "new project" UI. I'm wondering if it would make sense to revert the order of naming and creating a job: obviously that's no longer just a CSS + JS change, but I think it better fits the thought process when creating jobs. First decide that I want a multibranch pipeline, then pick a repository, then decide the name (which could then be pre-filled by the plugin that provides multibranch jobs, based on the repository name). So basically first create an item with a temporary name e.g. "multibranch 1", then let user rename it by providing an extra field in the configuration form.
    Mark Waite
    @MarkEWaite
    I've started an email thread to discuss if we should delay the LTS baseline selection by 2 weeks or even by 4 weeks so that regressions can be resolved. See https://groups.google.com/g/jenkinsci-ux/c/AFe-kcqoEok/m/8gKtkeoEAQAJ for the discussion thread

    @NotMyFault Hi. I am going to try to upgrade the external workspace manager plugin for automated releases, but I am expecting visitors shortly, I don't know if I can complete it today.
    Alexander Brandes

    No worries, it's not urgent to release this change today. Thanks for pulling it in nevertheless, if you need assistance with setting up CD, let me know.
