I encountered issue with roots installation with this error:

npm ERR! Darwin 13.4.0
npm ERR! argv "/usr/local/bin/node" "/usr/local/bin/npm" "install" "roots" "-g"
npm ERR! node v6.9.2

npm ERR! Tell the author that this fails on your system:
npm ERR! node ./post_install.js

I tried everything mentioned in the docs to fix the permission error but I still end up with the same error. I have the latest node and npm installed and I can successfully install package globally, I also changed permission and restarted Terminal but all to no avail. Before I decided to quit Roots with other static gen, I gave it another shot. I cloned the repo then run npm install -g -- finally it worked! I'm a happy Roots user now.

haha so strange!
especially that it failed at that script, which is just console.logs to inform about analytics
perhaps it would be better to remove that script and add a note to the readme instead
i have seen this error before, but never been able to figure out why it would happen
either way glad it ended up working out @markphd
