no worries! yeah basically
roots will continue to be supported and have major bugs fixed for a little while, but its inactive as far as further development
spike is based around the same ideas and a similar interface, but a large swath of changes to the languages used and underlying architecture
everything is more modern, and modular
meaning the languages don't have a feature set specifically
you use plugin to make it act how you want
and many features are being slowly replaced by similar functionality, but that will be native to html, css, or javascript eventually and is only compiled for now while browsers catch up
it uses webpack at the core for bundling
if you're starting a new project, would definitely encourage you to check out spike. we have a gitter channel for it as well that is quite active if you need help :)
