Hi, I have gone back to roots as spike is way to confusing at times. Im using https://github.com/static-dev/spike-tpl-roots via sprout. The problem I'm having is the live reload isn't working. I have to keep on quiting and run spike watch everytime I make a change. The code is compiling no probs but the browser won't show changes..

I have been playing with spike for a few months now and its great but for someone like me without much experience it can be daunting. Something like adding the lost grid to app.js is difficult for me, and I just can't get it to work so I'm going back to basics..

After having a look around It seems that the changes I make in
views > index.pug
Are not getting transferred to
public > index.html
But the changes are showing in
public > index.pug
So what it is saying to me is that the html is just not rendering to the browser, not sure how to fix this..

Why is there an index.pug file getting rendered to public for? It should be going to the index.html in public I would have thought..

right, your thinking is correct ... something is not right

roots doesnt use pug
i dont think
also, you can use cssStandards({ appendPlugins: [require('lost')()] })
in spike, to use lost grid

@jescalan I really want to continue with spike, can you please check out this https://gist.github.com/benodonohue/aa0adabb7ed0b10177ba35e9217aaf5a and amend it for me to include lost. I really just don't get it.. I believe if I can get lost to load I will have a better understanding..

@benodonohue, I've based this on the instructions @jescalan gave above (and cross checked the lost grid installation instructions, and spike css standards)...

can you confirm the spike version that you are running?

I just confirmed it all worked perfectly with a fresh install
Do you see the same error even when you remove the inclusion of lost() in the appendPlugins

"spike": "1.3.1"
No error when I remove lost() in the appendPlugins

have you put any lost rules into your css?
Ben O'Donohue

So here is what I have done:
  • fresh instance of spike
  • npm install --save lost
  • package.json showing "lost": "^8.0.0"
  • amended app.js to @knupska instructions
I haven't put in any lost rules yet..

looks like you did the same as me
this is my end result, compiles fine for me
I added a single lost rule to the css to ensure that it was not only compiling, but that lost was also being applied

@knupska I just cloned it.. I see the css rule you added

.lost-div
 lost-column: 1/3

I added a blue background to check and WTF! it actually works..

So I wonder why its not working on my version of spike 1.3.1?

I might have to remove spike and do a fresh install perhaps..
Nathan Martin

Jun 30 2017 05:34
maybe could your app.js again though, the version that should be the same, but fails
*could you show me
there should be no difference between them

Sorry, I have now removed the original failed build but you are not going to believe this, I am now creating another instance as per my original issue and there are no more errors? lost is now working fine..
Thanks heaps for your help..

My pleasure @jescalan, Ben seemed to be in my timezone so I figured we could get it resolved while everyone else had a nice sleep.
