@tmptrash You have to tell GR how to fill, e.g. for solid fill areas with cyan color:
    setfillintstyle(1)
    setfillcolorind(5)
    fillrect(1, w, 1, h)

As you can see in source code i use these settings:

setcolorrep(2, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0)
setlinecolorind(2)
setlinewidth(1)
setlinetype(GR.LINETYPE_SOLID)
setfillcolorind(2)
setfillintstyle(GR.INTSTYLE_SOLID)

The rect is visible and filled. The only problem in right and bottom lines.

I did not completely read your last message - sorry. But I'll check this. I hope, it's not just a rounding error in GDI ...

@jheinen quick question about GR.surface(x, y, z, GR.OPTION_COLORED_MESH) (for heatmaps)... does it only accept "edges" for x/y, or can it also accept "centers"?

in this image, i passed in what I intended to be a 5x5 grid where the x/y values are centers, but I get a 4x4 grid where x/y are edges. presumably there is a row/column of z which is ignored
