@jheinen on Windows, everytime I plot with Plots.jl to the GR backend I get an error invalid workstation type (windows). Then if I ever close the window I need to re-open Julia to plot again. Do you know what that could be?

The plots also look odd, is this what you were talking about before?

I honestly don't know much about Windows-specific things. My goto whenever this stuff happens is usually just to go to Linux...

what's "odd"?
they are correct, but ugly?

yeah, it doesn't look very nice. The lines are thin and jagged.

Also, I just plotted using GR directly: it works fine, so it is a Plots.jl problem.

Well actually... using GR directly doesn't throw errors, but it has the same problem that if the GUI is ever closed it won't come back and you have to restart Julia.
But invalid workstation type (windows) is Plots.jl specific.
Ahh, found that this issue was just reported: jheinen/GR.jl#42

@ChrisRackauckas can you try Plots dev for the "invalid" error?
the closing of the window is unrelated I think

:+1:
So okay, that solves the error.

I still have the jagged lines and the plot window only opens once.
Are those the things you mean are solved by the Qt5 driver @jheinen?

@ChrisRackauckas : The dotted lines (in GR for Windows) are soft-rendered due to problems with the dash-lines in older GDI versions. I will check whether this problem has been fixed by M$ and then switch to the native dash-line generator.
