I literally don't have any access to windows machines anymore

@ysb33r you can spin up Windows machines on EC2
or Azure!

@ysb33r do you know of any good spock command line reporters? I don't want to have to open my freakin' web browser to view test failures
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Nov 23 2014 21:42
nope. I’ve never looked into it.
if one can find a unit cmd line reporter it should work, as the webview you get with gradle is actually a junit transform

So, If have two hours to spare. Do I fix groovy-vfs or work on my Gradle book… ? (Not in the mood for ruby atm).

@ysb33r
Nov 23 2014 22:13
yip. I showed the first couple of pages to Dan the other night, also to demonstrate dome issues in the asciidoctor-epub3 extension.
if you want, you can preview them

man what is the deal with forums in the groovy community, everybody seems to use them instead of mailing lists
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Nov 23 2014 22:38
only the gradle community
groovy uses a ML
actually in gradle if as that stupid Get Satisfaction firum, but the dev still use a ML
not sure about what ratpack does
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
Nov 23 2014 22:39
nah, other projects I'm seeing are using them too
bums me out

Last time I had uses with ratpack I just asked Luke Daley directly.
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
Nov 23 2014 22:40
heh
ratpack uses this bloody forum that luke wrote!
rtyler @rtyler facepalms
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Nov 23 2014 22:40
yah, I think Luke is influenced by Gradleware

I'm trying really hard to give ratpack a shot but they're documentation tends to focus on the areas not useful for beginners
Schalk W. Cronjé

I’ve struggled too. There is no real quick start.
especially since I was not doing the standard stuff with it.
R. Tyler Croy
@rtyler
Nov 23 2014 22:50
was it worth the trouble?
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Nov 23 2014 22:56
I gave up at the time as I did not have the time to make it work. I have no gone back since they fixed the issues I’ve raised. I was trying to use ratpack as a http server within a unit test, but I required HEAD verb to work correctly.
Much of ratpack was foucsed towards quick start up for microservices, not the kind of stuff I was trying, even though I still think it should be great to do that
I reckon best is to leave issues on github or just ‘complain’ on twitter

I think my unfamiliarity with Groovy is making this much harder than it should be though
ratpack 0.9.10 seems pretty decent
Schalk W. Cronjé
@ysb33r
Nov 23 2014 23:02
I do agree there. I think that with ratpack specifically, understanding Groovy is more important than with many other Groovy DSLs
It is because the documentation assumes you are good with Groovy, that it is so hard to use.
