there's one for jrubyexec and one for packing up a simple jar
they're both the source of the examples on jruby-gradle.org

@rtyler the jar plugin defaults to the jrubyJar configuration and seems to ignore the "gems" one, at least when using it through the service-artifact plugin. can that be the case ?

that is correct, if the gems plugin is meant to be included than the user should use jrubyJar.extendsFrom gems
@mkristian part of my motivation for that is to encourage usage of configurations instead of dumping everything into 'gems' which I saw a lot of previously
then people would complain about the lack of "groups" in gradle >_<
